US goverment says gas prices lower in APRIL :-)

Todays CPI just told you that gasoline prices DROPPED 2.0% in APRIL :1orglaugh

I already knew that CPI is a lie, but its great to see it the mainstream press:

"Americans are feeling a lot more economic pain than the government's official statistics would lead you to believe, according to a growing number of experts."

http://biz.yahoo.com/cnnm/080514/051308_misery.html

eg.
Bill Gross, the manager of Pimco Total Return, the nation's largest bond fund, refers to the CPI as a "con job" that deliberately understates the price pressures faced by Americans in order to keep Social Security payments and other government costs pegged to the index unduly low.

Sometimes, it's less of a burden when you have a pile of shit and your car is on order. I haven't paid for a new tank in... 6 weeks! :thumbsup

sumphatpimp 05-14-2008 09:22 AM

so, if I piss on your shoes and tell you it is raining, are you going to believe it?

CPI doesn't include just rice, wheat, eggs and gas. It's a basket of goods and services.

ADL Colin 05-14-2008 11:00 AM

So basically you'd prefer the CPI numbers to not be seasonally adjusted? Why or why not?

State gas tax is much lower in New Jersey than in Pennsylvania...

In addition, most gas stations located at rest stops along the AC Expressway, NJ turnpike, and Gardenstate Expressway are only permitted to change prices once per week.

Also, supposedly, insurance rates for gas stations is lower in NJ than PA due to paid attendents pumping the gas instead of motorists.

NJ and Oregon are unique in that they require consumer gas stations to have paid attendents pump gas.
