Interesting. They have also portrayed belief in Evolution and the Big Bang. Not all religion rejects science.

Funes urged the church and the scientific community to leave behind divisions caused by Galileo's persecution 400 years ago, saying the incident has "caused wounds."
In 1633 the astronomer was tried as a heretic and forced to recant his theory that the Earth revolved around the sun. Church teaching at the time placed Earth at the center of the universe. "The church has somehow recognized its mistakes," he said. "Maybe it could have done it better, but now it's time to heal those wounds and this can be done through calm dialogue and collaboration." Pope John Paul declared in 1992 that the ruling against Galileo was an error resulting from "tragic mutual incomprehension." The fact that it took until 1992 which was 359 years after they made thier "mistake" to admit said mistake, tells me everyhting i need ot know about Christianity |
This is huge news! Alot of space stuff going on and now this.. I wonder what they know already.. I don't think people understand what it means that the Vatican has come out and said this. Crazy.

Modern Catholicism is a lot more opened minded about sience than most Christian denominations.
I went to Catholic school in the San Francisco Bay Area from 3rd grade - high school. I remember being taught Evolution, the Big Bang, Darwinism and pretty much all regular modern science. Nothing was held back cause it contradicted Gold. In fact the big bang was taught and then tied into religion by saying "who knows how long a day is to god" so if he made the world in 7 days, a day to god might be a billon of our years. I was taught Science proves facts and then we try and tie god into. It was NOTHING like the bullshit creationism that's being taught to "Christians". I NEVER heard of "creationism" and all the bullshit the bible best of America spews untill recently. While Catholicism is still a form of Christianity, it's by far more opened minded and more modern than all the Bible Belt denominations. If you believe in Creationism I feel very sorry for you cause you're as ignorant as a 3 year old believing in Santa Clause. I have nothing against people that believe in God, religion, spirituality etc.. But I can't stand people that believe it soooooo much that they toss all modern VERIFIED science out the window. Creationism teaches that the world is a few thosand years old and the Dinosaurs never existed but where placed in the dirt by God as a test for us. Believing that makes you no better than the idiots that persecuted Galileo 300 years ago. Just my :2 cents: |
lets send some missioners ;)

I heard about this when they first said something about it Cnn last week. First thing I thought was "They must know something, and are covering their bases before it gets out."
So, I expect some announcement of life being discovered in some form soon. Maybe from the Mars surface, Maybe the probes have found some proof that's being canned until the religion has a chance to soften the blow? |

I still hold to my opinion that even though Catholiscm is a form of Christianity, it's far more open minded than "Fundametal, Evangelical, Born Again, Mormon, Jehova, etc." Not that Catholism doesn't have its issues either...all religions do. |
he's an alien himself

No government in their right mind is going to announce the discovery of life in some form on another planet without working very closely with the church. Religion means more to the stability of the planet than some here want to believe. |
