google gives it, google takes it away!
Any google expert can put some light into this? I'v been working a small WIKI for some months now, started back in november, and for many months, I had an average of 25 unique visitors per day, now, on April 19th, I started to get a lot of hits from google search, basically I started ranking good for almost every article in my wiki, growing all the way to almost 300 uniques on May 5, but after that, on may 10th, I'm back to 25 visits, and I rank like shit on all keywords like it was before.. why will google do this?

Probably some Google Exec with a hot lady in his office showing her how he can play God.

Welcome to the sandbox.. but why are you worried about 25 or 300 visitors? you have any value then traffic costs from them?
|
Posting the url will probably make it easier to see what's wrong...
|
can I have my click back? even reading about somebody complaining about a few hundred visitors/day makes me wish I had this time and click back...
|
Google always do that with new domains/sites. Going up and down is normal. You need to wait at least one year to get some steady SE traffic.

and if you are anything like me you will hate this waiting time :) But if you continue to work hard and stay focussed you will succeed. |
hey.. i know.. im complaining about so little traffic, like I said, this is NOT a commercial website but a wiki.. more like a hobby for me
|
when you're in the sandbox, that always happens..
if i were google i might use people who have it's toolbar during the time a site is in the sandbox to determine how many pages they visit and how long they are at the site.. then occasionally pool a group of sites from the sandbox to test them out in order to consider their relevancy when making a placement determination..(in otherwords, if the site is junk, irrelevant, spammy, etc, the page views and length of time on the site would be very short) does google actually do this? i dunno, it's just speculation on my part cuz that's what i would do lol... ;) |
It's happened to me before. One of my sites was the 3rd listing on google for a specific search term. Then one day it's on page 7. After about 40 days it goes to page 2... though nothing changed on the site. It's just how google works.

Talking about google..

A few hundred clicks in a day can be 10 sales or more if they are well targeted. People take way to litely the number of clicks it takes to make a sale. It's kind of like winning the lotto. Only takes one ticket. |
I have several sites with less than 300 hits a day that make me a couple grand a month...
Targeted traffic converts at 1:60... The bullshit you guys with 2,000 Alexa rating sites put up with I laugh at. Some of you people have 450,000 uniques a day and a PR5 porn site but make far less than I do. I don't get why you all think traffic is tantamount to being successful money wise. |
you aren't by chance using mediawiki as the platform are you? do you ro someone you're in contact have the ability to fiddle with custom mediawiki designs? i've been looking for someone for ages. get in touch with me if you or someone you know can handle this for a guy...

maybe targeted for an extremely tight rare niche, but 1:60 for average search engine traffic??, even if it is somewhat targeted maybe I am wrong, I will keep an open mind, maybe you have mastered some zen type powers of internet persuasion |

BTW we are still down there :( |

honestly people can say sand boxed, you changed something, etc...
but i've had sites that have been up for years. which i haven't touched anything. ranked well for a keyword for 6-8 months. all of the sudden ill drop to page 8 for a couple weeks. then 2-3 weeks go by and next thing you know im first page again for that same keyword. i've even had some instances where im ranked for a specific keyword i targeted. and my first page ranking will drop off the planet, but ill then be ranked first page for a similar but different keyword to the one i had before. i honestly just think google is constantly experimenting with different algorithms all the time. only keywords i can honestly say ive kept forever are domain type ins. the rest are constantly moving up or down depending on what google is doing. |

I got sandboxed in the US google search engines but still front page for a lot of non-us google searches. Any idea why that would happen?
