You've answered the question in your title with the first sentence in your post.

Not liking it and not being able to find a good one are two completely different things. I would frequent one quite often if I could find a good one (NONE in my town, but I'm talking about willing to drive to a burb 40+ miles away for a pickup).

baddog 05-11-2008 04:09 PM

Have you ever tried McGhandi's?

farkedup 05-11-2008 04:14 PM

cause its horrible! Why would we want to eat that shit?

Have you ever been in an elevator with a family of them? OMG! Its brutal!

Being a Brit I absolutely love a good curry, washed down with Dortmunder or Kingfishers beer , I have tried to find a decent curry house in every state I have visited and not one is equal to the worst curry restaurant in the UK.

I believe its because the British gave out thousands of UK passports to India when we withdrew from ruling the country, many, many years ago. So all the best chefs took advantage of this and hopped on a raft to the UK.
Ive been to India, Pakistan and found the curry there to be way less tasty than that of the UK restaurants.

I once flew back to the UK just to have a Curry at my favorite curry restaurant in Richmond called the "Taste of Raj". Its been open for more than 25 years and still makes the best curry I have ever tasted.

Americans in general dont like highly spiced food ( I own 12 restaurants so I know what im talking about at least in California ) So curry which can be highly spiced ( Chicken Phall or Vindaloo ) would hardly sell here. I have tried to get the owner of Indian Gossip and the Taste of Raj to open a restaurant here but they are not interested, so I guess we are destined to live in a land devoid of decent curries ?

PS in LA when I was working on Sex Survivor 2000 I had a curry in a place, i think it was called the Balti House, next to an Irish pub on Sunset Blvd. It was quite good but that was 7 years ago and I think its out of business now ? Perhaps Baddog has heard of it ?

Apparently, one of the few places to get half-way decent food in England is in Indian restaurants. Which just goes to show how awful the food is there. One of the reasons I emigrated from England was that I couldn't stand the food there.

Sly 05-11-2008 04:36 PM

I like chicken korma.

12 restaurants? Damn. What kind?

Peaches 05-11-2008 04:40 PM

When we were in London, all the restaurants were owned by Indians but we didn't eat any Indian food. They were steakhouses (worst ever) and the local fish and chips was owned and run by Indians. There should be a rule against that ;)

Indians make great curry, but thats all they make. If you go back to London hit me up i will provide a list of the most amazing Italian, Greek, French,Chinese and Japanese restaurants you will ever eat in. They have all been open for more than 20 years and still going strong.
:thumbsup:thumbsup

They range from simple coffee shop/restaurants to eclectic hi-end eateries

Curry has now taken over fish and chips and is the nations favourite dish.

Did you know that most of the Indian restaurants are run by Pakistani's?

I used to go out for curries alot but now i've got sick of them. My Mums Indian and makes a way better curry than i've ever had out.

I kind of figured porn allowed you to get the first and you took it from there.

F-U-Jimmy 05-11-2008 04:56 PM

Well it was really Film Special Effects that allowed me to open the first few. Porn is just a lucrative side line. :thumbsup

Ya, my Fijian friend and I were actually talking about this today, kind of weird. A lot of Indians live in Fiji, and they can only ever sell their houses to other Indian families, no one else will buy them because of the smell. I guess it's becoming a real problem, lots of houses aren't selling.

Only if Taco Bell counts (which it doesn't) I find if the people are dirty Don't even think about eating their food...

I do love Chinese food and women... Give me a good steakhouse any day... Up here we have a SERIOUS seafood shortage, Red Lobster is a joke... people look at me funny when I where jeans and a white T-shirt to eat there... that shithole is just the "arby's of seafood" I love it when I go down to Florida or North Carolina to eat. There's a bunch of nice seafood places around the outter banks, my wifes favorite is dirty dicks LOL but I like some of the smaller places on the west side of florida when we make it down that way. We found this one place a ways off the beaten track where you get a huge bucket of blue crabs + shrimp WAY more than enough food for 2 for $15 ;)

Elli 05-11-2008 05:41 PM

mmmm I think it's time to hit All India Sweets tonight!

crockett 05-11-2008 05:44 PM

There is one right up the street from my house. I've eaten there a few times but I'm not a big fan of the style of food.

I used to work in the 0+ business. Most of our customers were small Indian owned motels. I was in customer service. I'm pretty sure I've been in every Indian owned motel from Virginia Beach to Miami then over to Texas. It got to where my stomach would turn as soon as I drove up and I didn't TOUCH Indian for about 20 years after that :helpme

I came home one time from Houston and had WAY too many drinks on the plane (Friday night, first class, 3 hour delay - it was excusable). I had to call my then boyfriend to drive 50 miles each way to get me (then do the reverse the next day to get my car). He smelled the curry on me WHEN HE PICKED ME UP. It had been about 1/2 a day since I'd been in that hotel but he smelled it immediately and we had rarely discussed it. A shower was required. :upsidedow

Your answer says a lot, you have to eat where they make the best food or you will never try it again. I always hated Mexican food because its cheap and nasty here in San Diego but I went to Santa Fe New Mexico and I had the best Mexican food of my life.

Indian food tastes amazing in London but try it in San Diego and you would probably never eat curry again. You want real Pizza then the very best place to eat that is Taormina Sicily, they use a special flour that is available nowhere else in the world, until you try it you have never had the best pizza.

The best Thai food I have ever had, was in Bangkok, the city is dirty and smelly and if you fall in the river you need to have tetanus injections immediately, but their food is wonderful. Does it show that i love food ??? :thumbsup:thumbsup

candyflip 05-11-2008 06:03 PM

This American loves Indian and hits the buffet at least 1 time each week. I also learned how to make a mean Butter Chicken.

I do agree that anyone who hasn't tried it is missing out.

Bdiddy 05-11-2008 06:03 PM

Honestly, I don't think you're looking hard enough, or you're just in the wrong area. Theyre all over the place where I'm from.

shekinah 05-11-2008 06:06 PM

I hate spicy foods!:(

farkedup 05-11-2008 06:10 PM

italian style pizza isn't for me... give me a pizza from anywhere within walking distance of where the white sox play (chicago ghetto) and you'll find some badass pizza and plenty of chicken and rib joints...

What got me started on chinese food was actually having some "fresh off the boat" women around when I lived out west... You know the unamericanized kind that suck your dick till you can't take it anymore then get their asses up and go cook you some food just to do it all over again ;) I was offered quite a few different "greencard" arrangements but just didn't take any of them... strung them along for a while then moved on to the next one ;)

I've had mexican food in places like cancun but like you said if the first places you eat are SHIT you just have a bad taste in your mouth pretty much forever.

I can't stand really strong smells, I can't eat bacon except in the spring/fall when I can open up all the windows...

back in HS I had a few mexican girls that I went to their houses for food, they did do some pretty cool things with steak and chicken that I liked but as far as eating out I haven't found any good places... Those girls with moms that I'm pretty sure were illegal did make some good food.
