qx9775 looks nice

GrouchyAdmin 05-06-2008 02:09 PM

I have a QX6700 in my "new" desktop. It's reasonably fast, and I have no need to spend thousands on my desktop; I don't do much locally, anyhow.

Broda 05-06-2008 02:31 PM

I have the q9300 core 2 quad
pretty fast
I wanted the q9450 but it wasn't available anywhere

Sosa 05-06-2008 02:32 PM

8086 Yeahhhhhhh

ronbotx 05-06-2008 02:56 PM

An oem quad core Q6600/SLACR I picked up on ebay for $184. Around $220 at newegg for a boxed retail version.

rowan 05-06-2008 03:04 PM

I have a Q6600 in my desktop but I'm considering swapping it with the "lowly" E2200 in my mysql server since my desktop doesn't do much more than browsing and the occasional large image in photoshop...

eMonk 05-06-2008 03:05 PM

overclocked 600MHz amd here :pimp

bronco67 05-06-2008 03:25 PM

I have a qx6700, a q6600 and an e6600 dualcore. I'm about to upgrade the 66 to one of those fancy new 45nm chips. Probably a q9450. The price is nice and it overclocks to the same speeds as the more expensive ones.

delboy 05-06-2008 03:45 PM

p4 2.9 lol

BlackCrayon 05-06-2008 03:52 PM

why pay over $200 for a CPU, I got my Q6600 for a little over $200 and instead of a $400+ CPU I'll just spend $200 every year on a CPU. It was tough to pass on the E8400 but I figure I'll be doing enough video encoding to be worth the extra 2 cores over clock speed.

Spunky 05-06-2008 05:32 PM

Just got my dual core about 7 months ago..guess next year

_Rush_ 05-06-2008 05:46 PM

e6600

I've had it for like 2 years already and looking solid enough for another year or so before I need to upgrade. Goes nice with my 8800GTS.

rowan 05-06-2008 09:45 PM

tony286 05-06-2008 09:50 PM

Pentium D 930 3ghz - Dual Core

Bought it like 3 years ago. Works just fine. Will upgrade when I build another pc. This one will keep the Pentium D930 3ghz.

Will be in the market for a new box in about two months...worth waiting for something new to come out or is quad core the shit right now?

fallenmuffin 05-06-2008 11:55 PM

I just finished building my new desktop and it is running...

# AMD Athlon 64 X2 6400+ Windsor 3.2GHz Socket AM2 125W Dual-Core Processor

lol copied from newegg :/

Socks 05-07-2008 12:02 AM

e6600 here, dunno why I'd need a faster CPU right now.. I have 18mbit into my apartment now though, so I guess that does lag things a bit sometimes.. ;)

Nails 05-07-2008 12:20 AM

I have the 9650 running vista right now. It's plenty fast and my only complaint is more about how vista behaves with zips and folders over windows xp. But speed wise it's just as fast as xp.

I am about to watercool the thing and overclock it.

You know that RAID0 is not fault tolerant? If either of the drives fail, you'll lose all of your data.

(Technically it's not a complete loss, you may be able to restore some small files that occupy less than a full stripe on the remaining working drive, but it's a lot of manual and expert work to do that...)

JamesK 05-07-2008 01:13 AM

q6600 quad core like the majority :)
