You're white. Guess what, cinquo de mayo means nothing to you.

That is all.

FYI most Mexicans don't even give a shit about the day.

Grapesoda 05-05-2008 09:31 AM

I going to celebrate by selling some oranges next to the freeway off ramp!!!

Horny Dude 05-05-2008 09:31 AM

Another one of those beer holidays. I heard that America makes more of a big deal of it then Mexico does.

Head down to the USC area. I didn't know the world produced that many oranges to be honest.

College kids love their oranges? Who knows.

GetSCORECash 05-05-2008 09:34 AM

Yes we, do!

But it's because all the Mexican restaurants have some type of festival today... Atleast here in Miami.

Nothing is even on sale. Hell if I could get a happy hour I'd be fine with it. But it's a cheap St Patty's, and that annoys me!

Libertine 05-05-2008 09:37 AM

cinco de mayo = fifth of may
fifth of may = liberation day

Nikki_Licks 05-05-2008 09:41 AM

I am not celebrating it, never have. I think a nicely cooked rib eye is in order for this evening, with a tall bottle of Budweiser :thumbsup

seeric 05-05-2008 09:42 AM

Texas has the best Mexican. TexMex owns faces.

GigoloMason 05-05-2008 10:42 AM

God forbid cultures intermingle. That'd be just horrible.

Last year we had $1.25 corona's at a bar here. Place was packed with college kids

Honez 05-05-2008 10:57 AM

I celebrate this day for more than Cinco de Mayo. My guy and I met on this day 6 years ago :)

baddog 05-05-2008 11:03 AM

I would say it means more to white people in SoCal than to Mexico.

sicone 05-05-2008 11:04 AM

It means the bar down the street has 2 dollar shots of Patron all night

stev0 05-05-2008 11:06 AM

I like the corona specials, and seems like a good day to party on.

You don't have to be christian to celebrate St. Patricks day, you don't have to be Pagan to celebrate halloween or the 25th of December, so why would you have to be Mexican so celebrate Cinco de Mayo? :)

Sly 05-05-2008 11:15 AM

Do you only go to birthday parties if it's your birthday?

It's just a reason to get together and have fun. St. Patrick's Day, Memorial Day, Labor Day, The Fourth of July, Christmas... all celebration days...

Cinco de Mayo is a pretty big deal in the Bay Area, particularly in San Jose, where there is an annual parade, and a Cinco de Mayo Festival (which ran all weekend and concludes today). Basically, it's mostly about celebrating Mexican heritage and culture. The annual Mariachi contest and dancing exhibitions are quite popular.

As with past years, I'll have a few margaritas and walk around checking out the exhibits and bands with friends. It's a good opportunity to build intercultural community bonds and to better understand people of Mexican heritage, whom make up a sizeable percentage of the population here.

It commemorates the victory of the Mexican army during some war in history, and the subsequent drinking their population did in celebration thereafter.

Over the years they kept the drinking and mostly left the rest of it where it should be... in the past.

But the drinking is what's important. Focus on that.

Sinko my tequilio. :D

shermo 05-05-2008 12:38 PM

It's the same argument that people have for St Patrick's Day... if you want to celebrate it, go for it...If not, don't.

I personally never celebrate Cinco De Mayo, but it's not because I'm against it. It just always falls on a day in which I need to be productive ;)
