Free Nine Inch Nails album

http://theslip.nin.com/

Pretty good, in my opinion.

Also, it's interesting to see how a number of major artists (Radiohead, NIN) are trying a different approach than the RIAA one. I wonder how it'll work out.

I liked this part:

Quote:

we encourage you to
remix it
share it with your friends,
post it on your blog,
play it on your podcast,
give it to strangers,
etc.
Translation, we have enough money, we just want to make our music and put it out there for people to hear.

or

Translation, we're not as popular as we used to be and want to get our name out there more so we can sell out more tours.

Your take?

It is an interesting approach hey.

They state on their site "for those of you interested in physical products, fear not. we plan to make a version of this release available on CD and vinyl in july. details coming soon."

I wonder if its a loyalty thing.

I'm sure they would get some publicity out of it anyways, so its not really a loss.

Mark.

A bit of both, as well as a genuine interest in sharing his creations with others.

Translation: we're only going to make a few bucks on the CD anyways, but concert tickets and tshirt prices will be higher ;-)

music industry is fucked. they are trying anything they can to sell music. not easy to do this when you can get it for free. so ticket prices for shows are fucking stupid!!! not fun! who can afford to go to a show anymore?

If you only listen to big acts that are well established then I suppose the ticket prices could seem steep. But you can still go see a mid level band play for around $20-30 depending on where it is. The Raconteurs is a good recent example.
