IRON MAN MAKES OVER $100 MILLION this weekend

http://boxofficemojo.com/news/?id=2492&p=.htm

What a difference a single movie can make. After weeks of humdrum pictures dragging it down, business came roaring back with the sensational debut of Iron Man, the first salvo of the summer movie season. While the weekend as a whole was down from last year when Spider-Man 3 hit a new opening milestone, it was the fourth best on record for the early May timeframe.

Iron Man rocketed to an estimated $100.8 million on approximately 8,700 screens at 4,105 theaters for a $104.3 million tally including Thursday night previews. The reportedly $140 million-budgeted Marvel Comics adaptation had the second-highest grossing opening weekend ever for a non-sequel behind Spider-Man and the tenth highest overall. In terms of attendance, the start was slightly higher than X2: X-Men United's May 2 debut five years ago, and it soared past Marvel's average opening by over 60 percent.

I guess this shows that quality and excitement can still sell?

I haven't been to a movie since December... this is the first one I actually want to go check out.

Fap 05-04-2008 06:39 PM

...or its becasue it's BAD ASS

tiger 05-04-2008 06:56 PM

Didn't look all that great but I still want to see it. So far I haven't heard anyone say anything but good stuff about it.

Slick 05-04-2008 07:00 PM

I've seen it twice now, once on the opening day with the guys and again today with the family. It's such a geat movie. It's even just over 2 hours long, but there's really no parts in the movie that are boring, it flows along nicely with character development and storyline.

It's more of a serious movie than say Spiderman, but it has it has a couple of funny parts, but that's not a bad thing, serious is good. :)

Also, make sure that you stay in the theature until ALL of the credits roll for a little suprise :) I won't ruin it, but make sure you stay. I know both times I saw the movie, only a handful of people stuck around while the rest left and missed out on it.

My gf hates that I stay to the end of every movie to see if there's anything after the credits.

vod 05-04-2008 07:08 PM

not sure if it's a hit or just nothing else to see at the movies..

1. Iron Man (PG-13)

2. Made of Honor (PG-13)

3. Baby Mama (PG-13)

4. Forgetting Sarah Marshall (R)

5. The Forbidden Kingdom (PG-13)

IRON MAN WINS>>>

Then why wasn't there a $100 million weekend last weekend? They had the same other shitty movies.

That wasn't my point.

A movie doesn't do $100 million just because every other movie sucks.

Pleasurepays 05-04-2008 07:37 PM

Baby Mama was a horrible name but that movie is very funny. I was really surprised.

Just watched Iron Man a couple hours ago and thought it was a really good movie.

mx8829 05-04-2008 07:42 PM

I havent been to the movies in a while, nothing really excited me that I wanted to and watch. But two movies I want to watch are harold and kumars shit ( with my drunken friends) and then ironman.

I think the last movie I was was pritate of the caribean 3

CybermedAndy 05-04-2008 08:23 PM

I'm glad it did its one of those rare movies worthy of returns that size

Especially compared to vapid watered-down summer fare like Superman Returns :2 cents:

Doctor Dre 05-04-2008 10:32 PM

It's by FAR the best super hero movie ever. Just perfect timing and story. I loved it.

2nd best was Fantastic Four Two, but it was way too cheezy.

My theatre makes that easy... if the lights stay out during the credits, there's more coming. When they come on, that's it.

fuzzylogic 05-05-2008 01:41 AM

i am sure come morning IRONMAN 2 will be green lighted.

I'm with you. I rarely go to the theater. I'm not going to pay $10 to sit in a cramped seat and hear people crunch on food and talk through a movie unless I really want to see it. So like you it is the first movie I have went to the theater and seen and in a long time. I think the last one was Superbad.

On Friday, the day it opened, Terrence Howard was on Jimmy Kimmel and he was already talking about the sequel.

SoloGirlsContent 05-05-2008 03:13 AM

cameo of ( major marvel character) Samuel Jackson after the credits roll, mentions ( yet another major marvel comic franchise) so they will make a bunch of movies..

PLUS TONY ( ROBERT DOWNERY JR.) STARK/IRON MAN makes a cameo appearance in the new HULK

Sarah_Jayne 05-05-2008 04:02 AM

I enjoyed it. Robert Downey Jr is so watchable and added a level of intelligence to it that made it enjoyable to people like me that aren't all that impressed with explosions and stuff.

Shey 05-05-2008 04:22 AM

It was insanely awesome, Robert Downey Jr. was just perfect for the roll and he looked great. Until this movie, my number 1 was Batman Begins but this one took the spot.

Now that I know there's something at the end of the credits, I guess I'll just have to go watch it again. :winkwink:

Sarah_Jayne 05-05-2008 06:26 AM

In the UK to say something is tits means bad...didn't like it?

mvee 05-05-2008 09:40 AM

i made my $40 contribution and it was well worth it.

SykkBoy 05-05-2008 09:47 AM

My favorite movie of 2008.

Usually, in a 2 hour+ movie, I can find 10-15 minutes (or more) that could be snipped out and not lose anything, but this movie seemed to use every second of that time to fill with good acting, great actions sequences, brilliant special effects and even some humor.

It also had a pretty damn good soundtrack and some fun cameos. My favorite cameo was Stan Lee and my son's favorite was Tom Morello (he's a big Guitar Hero 3 fan).

SykkBoy 05-05-2008 10:32 AM

This is definitely a movie to catch in theaters, up on the big screen, with a crowd of people having fun (to avoid the youngsters, catch a late weeknight showing or a weekday matinée (if possible)

Come back to your roots a little more often... :-)

An American would say "that was tits" if it was good.

Adam_OC3 05-05-2008 10:43 AM

I wasn't sure at first but RD Jr. was perfect for the role.

Yup, was just saying to my partner that it is rare for that sort of movie with me because I didn't really feel it dragged much at all and I usually fall asleep (no joke) during extended fight scenes but not at all in this.

Martin 05-05-2008 12:46 PM

I enjoyed.

Isradude 05-05-2008 12:49 PM
