PREMIUM CONTENT vs. GOOD ENOUGH CONTENT

Just as an example.

I can never, ever, ever listen to any music on youtube.

I bought more than 30, (thirty) tunes from the 80's tonight.

You know why?

THE YOUTUBE COMPRESSION SUCKS MY NUTS!

I bought 35.00 worth of music tonight because I DID NOT WANT shitty 64kbps audio on my recordings.

TERRIBLE!

I would rather pay, than spend half my valuable Friday night searching for the free shit.

You know what, there are lots of people like me.

Digital delivery does not mean free, it means you have to over-deliver on what the cocksmokers that steal your shit are doing to get the customer that will actually pull out his credit card and pay you for content that they now think they don't have to pay for.

There you have it. There is "good enough" for people who won't buy anyhow. AND, Premium. For the sophisticated audiophile. Please apply this to your adult bizness.

Bye.

BYAHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!

Because you're drunk. The only time I think about calling up Time-Life, I'm blitzed.

UM NO!

Every time I fire up my CDRW to blow youtube out the water I realize my fucking ears can't take it.

I just spent that much money on ITUNES and you know what, lots of other people do too!

So, whether people think youtube kills music or not, it's bullshit. People with money DO buy shit when they could get it for free.

WHY? Because mostly free sucks.

Mostly.

Stop being so fucking Grouchy.

When I set up my "new" streaming site several years ago, I encoded the videos at a decent, not great, bitrate. I think it was somewhere just under 1000 kbps.
I was then deluged with *hundreds* of complaints from people who didn't have a good enough connection to watch the videos (and therefore, would not be able to spend any money on the site).
I had to re-encode hundreds of videos at a crappy bit-rate (about 576 kbps) so that everyone could watch them --- have encoded them at the same rate ever since --- and haven't had a single request to improve the quality in nearly three years.
Just my :2 cents:

ultimatebbwdotcom 05-03-2008 03:30 AM

I always buy my tunes, from my first vinyl in the early 80's to my last itunes last week... I like to support those who create.

GetSCORECash 05-03-2008 06:12 AM

with video, it's the same.

I just saw apocalypto on Blu-Ray and I while the movie was great, I was all into the quality.

How about offering two options?

That's great that you do that but don't kid yourself. You aren't supporting the artist, you are supporting the label. The label then rips off the artist. That is the business model for the music industry. Which is why it is collapsing.

I agree with the orginal post though. Surfers who want quality will always pay. Nothing has changed really.

CarlosTheGaucho 05-03-2008 06:34 AM

You're a DJ man...

I am an audiophile myself, I even love the original vinyl sound more than fuckin CD's and I can usually recognize mp3 from CD just by listening to it, but how many of us are?

The system I'm using doesn't allow for two options <sigh> - the next one I use will, though lol

I guess, although I did buy a lot of independent label vinyl between 88 and 96 where the profit (minus distribution and advertising) went mostly to the artist because they also owned the label.

But, I agree, In the main i realize that the artist does get a much smaller percentage than what i hand over at the counter. There are plenty that keep themselves fed and in Bentlys though, so what ever deal they struck with the suits is their bed to lie in.

Sly 05-03-2008 01:05 PM

I pay $13 a month for my music service and I have for three years. I love it. I pretty much get access to anything I want, I don't have to mess with searching for my favorite music or deal with whatever else all that free stuff involves...

I don't know about the rest of you... but paying $13 to get most anything I want versus spending hours upon hours trying to find what I want is a much better solution for me. 10 hours of my time is worth a lot more than $13.

Excellent. Definitely bumping this. We are in the broadband age people. When we have 10 Mbps connections why are we serving content at 1 Mbps? And don't make content a pain in the ass to view where one scene is split into 6 parts.

Matt_WildCash 05-03-2008 04:29 PM

People will always pay for Premium. Personally I hate 120kps mp3's they loss in quality is huge imo. There are some nice loss less codecs for ipod use though which is good.

Same with adult, people will ALWAYS pay for premium quality and for the ability to not have to jump through hoops to download quality stuff.

Have to disagree, as I am usually trying to preach - it's totally different products.

Why would ever free sites with full scenes offering adult video in flv would ever have such a massive amount of new and returned visitors if those can so easily pay for the "premium"...

The statement that every horny citizen of the civilised world with a credit card HAS to pay for porn is a total myth too.

You need something worth jacking off that turns you on and loads fast to immediately satisfy your need, not something worth jacking off that turns you on in HD and downloadable..

Give me a site like ... or ... or ... and I can jack off to full screen porn all night long, the thing is that surfers don't care about the quality nowhere that much as producers and marketers, I actually find some of them almost blinded with their "quality".

The surfers thank you for speaking for them lol. Personally if Im a vod site and wacking it to something I look through the thumbs and the ones that are poor quality I skip even if it might be something I am wanting see. If there are two movies of the same niche, one HD great quality on a fast Content delivery network, and one is 320x240 pixelated crap which shall they choose?

30.00 bucks for a months membership, Site A has 1280x720 downloadable clips and 854x480 streaming h.264 codec beautiful video. Site B has 640x480 downloadable and 320x240 streaming. Hmmm

You are at a car dealership There is a 99 Honda Civic, and a 99 Porsche 911 both will cost you 4500.00 Hmmm

I know what I would pick in both situations.

fuzebox 05-04-2008 11:03 AM

This is why tube traffic converts when upselling paysite memberships :winkwink:

Let me point out we are not talking about picking a car but we are talking about jacking off, it won't change your social status if you won't be paying for super high resolution porn when the lower quality porn gives you the same sticky keyboard.

Most of your surfers won't even know what is a fast content delivery network unless they are masturbating geeks and even the HD might be a good thing to check, yet it will hardly turn into a competitive disadvantage as far as you have a content unique and exclusive enough..

Our ultimate new age "fast jerk off delivery networks" - illegal tube sites, that are the most discussed topic recently, actually show the power of a fullscreen flv.

Not saying that paysites shouldn't care about the quality, do as much as you can to KEEP your members, but if you can give them exclusive content that turns them on and they are about to impulse buy it they will hardly decline if you offer "only" 1 - 2 Mbps wmv for example.

If I would use a parallel, if I can jerk off to the same video fullscreen and save 30 bucks, I know what I would pick..

CarlosTheGaucho 05-06-2008 01:12 PM
