Do you care about what other people think about you?

Just in general, do you care?

For example, if someone doesn't like the way you dress or look. Or if they think you are younger or older than you actually are. Or if they think they are better than you. Or if they assume things about you that aren't true... Or if they think you should lose weight or gain weight.

Or if they think things about you that aren't true, do you care to prove them wrong or do you not even care?
For example if they think something about you that is inaccurate.

StuartD 05-02-2008 06:41 PM

I don't really care, I do what I do regardless... but it is a reflection all the same.

If everyone thinks you're a screw up... perhaps it's time you started caring.

Domain Diva 05-02-2008 06:42 PM

I dont care,i am what i am and if people dont like it no problem :thumbsup

Im happy thats what counts :)

I'm talking about random people on the street, for example if someone assumes that you dyed your hair but it's actually natural. Or someone mistakenly assumes that you leased your car but you actually own it. Or someone assumes that you make less than you do. Or if someone assumes you are not knowledgeable about a certain subject but you actually know MORE than they do. Or if someone you don't know assumes you have a bachelors but you have MASTERS. Things like that. Or if someone assumes that you are younger/older than you are.

Spunky 05-02-2008 06:46 PM

They are going to make their judgments about you regardless..

Iron Fist 05-02-2008 06:48 PM

Everything is relative.

Sly 05-02-2008 06:49 PM

If I cared I would be left sitting in my house all of the time twiddling my thumbs complaining about my shitty life.

That would suck!

TampaToker 05-02-2008 06:50 PM

Only if its my family or friends. The rest of the world i don't give a rats ass about....

Why would the opinion of somebody that you don't know matter to you?

Yngwie 05-02-2008 06:51 PM

I don't give a shit.

It doesn't. It's just a hypothetical question to see what others think. Think of it as a survey for research purposes.

ProjectNaked 05-02-2008 06:53 PM

sometimes yes and sometimes no. I just found out someone is telling people around my town I am a heroine addict - that will get him a beating.

Usually it is just envy. :2 cents:

Same principle.

You shouldn't really care what people think of you whether you know them or not. But if someone thinks you're a dumb ass when really you know more about a subject than they do, perhaps you should take into consideration how others are perceiving you.

The dishonesty in this thread is pretty typical. People that feel they have to state they don't care what other people think are usually those that care the most what other people think. Feel free to continue the charade, though...:thumbsup

Kudles 05-02-2008 07:00 PM

It depends who the people are.

Yes. And if they didn't really care, they would post that they did.

You do realize who you are asking, right?

Everybody cares, period. I'm not talking about on an anonymous level like a message board. If you hear that a pretty girl that you just met thinks you are a creep you care. If you have a business meeting with someone for the first time and they think you are a douche you care. Even if you thrive on being a creep you care because that is what you want everyone to think. It is human nature, everyone cares...

Of course everybody cares at some base level. The question was more of "do you get upset if somebody you never met thinks you weigh 105 pounds when really you only weigh 100 pounds."

I get what you are saying, but I don't think he meant it quite that shallow. I am 34 years old and I still look a bit on the young side. I usually get ID'd when I buy alcohol, and it makes me feel pretty good. That being said, there was a period in my life when I put on quite a bit of extra weight due to excessive partying. I remember someone that I didn't know making a crack about my gut sticking out and it really bothered me, to the point that I hit the gym hardcore and got back into shape...

I want to know why it is that after four years of being of legal age I've probably been ID'd less than a dozen times... how does that work?

Bama 05-02-2008 07:19 PM

People (as in general population) - fuck no. Why would I care what someone I've never met and will, in all probability, never see or meet again, thinks.

People (as in acquaintances) - slightly. I don't flash the cash or dress to impress. I am who I am and if they like me for that - then I'm pleased but if they don't then it's no skin off my nose.

Friends - yes. While I may still do things that they wouldn't be pleased about (as in the typo I had to fix), I go out of my way to let them know why I did what I've done. Any real friend understands.

I would have to say it depends on the amount of care. I have very little concern with what others think of me from appearance (actual actions and virtues are different).
Otherwise I really would be driving myself batshit nuts. Come on I am in a chair, I am anemic with dry skin (which looks like the effects of say meth usage but isnt), I do not like to shave much, I have a fear of barbers so my hair remains fairly long, my feet swell so shoes do not work (socks only). Hell I am constantly asked for help with everything, and well it could go on and on.

People think what they want to regardless. I could be in a 4k suit, perfectly groomed, proper amount of accessories that imply cash and still people would first see and judge chair. Hell if I really worried I am sure I would of snapped in the past few years anyways when some stranger comes up and aggressively shakes my hand or squeezes my shoulders and (sometimes with tears) thanks me. Come on! Do you know how hard it is to explain yourself out of that situation when some poor lady is on verge of a complete emotional breakdown and you have to say sorry lady, I didnt get hurt in the middle east.

HAHAHAHA I still remember when I turned 21, and I went to buy beer like 10 minutes after midnight at a Shell station. I was SO proud that I was finally of age, and the fucking guy didn't ID me. I was like, "Oh no, you will see my damn ID!" :winkwink:

See chair excuse, its in the manual.

Those who sell alcohol figure you have and deserve the right to get fucked up more than most. So very few will ever card you and those that do are ussually very meek about it.
