London is about to have a clown for a mayor

Seriously, this city is going to be a laughing stock.

We have one as President... Consider yourself lucky :)

Evil Chris 05-02-2008 11:07 AM

Do you speak with an accent yet?

D Ghost 05-02-2008 11:10 AM

hahahha lol

Spudman 05-02-2008 11:18 AM

i can't believe how well the damn conservatives have done, i can't stand david cameron, I will be gutted if he gets in!!!

Sarah_Jayne 05-02-2008 11:25 AM

and even if the conservatives had to do well as protest votes Boris is a joke. He is very entertaining as a comedian but can you imagine how many countries he is going to have to apologize to come the Olympics?

No but I use phrases and words that are particular to the British which really confuses my mom. So, that is a bonus.

The one continual thing I mess up is that I am always calling currency dollars here but if I go to the States I am always calling money pounds. So, I have started just to say 'monetary unit'.

Funny..I just saw our (likely) new mayor talking and I was thinking how much his facial mannerisms were like that of Bush. He is at least smarter than Bush but is just a moron.

The best man one! Boris for Prime Minister!

Sarah_Jayne 05-02-2008 01:59 PM

It would be time to give up on the UK if he became PM.

I gave up on the UK already! I`m long gone!

Sarah_Jayne 05-02-2008 02:48 PM

I like the UK and I don't even dislike Boris..as a funny guy on a tv game show. It is the thought of him as mayor that is just scary.

Tim 05-03-2008 05:29 AM

I find it less scary than Ken.

cykoe6 05-03-2008 05:38 AM

Red Ken was a clown. Anything would have to be an improvement over him.

s9ann0 05-03-2008 05:48 AM

wow i am so glad not to be in london with boris in charge
:helpme

Odin 05-03-2008 06:27 AM

You're kidding right? You think Ken Livingston was a good person to represent London? The guy was a joke.

Vendot 05-03-2008 09:02 AM

No i disagree..... I think Ken has done a pretty good job but not a brilliant job. Im not sure about Boris. He's much smarter than people credit him for because of his image but London needs serious attention. It really irritates me when people vote for celebrity.

I guess time will tell how he handles it....

I think Brian Paddick would have been superb though on the crime side of things.

Lee 05-03-2008 09:42 AM

Boris would have got my vote.

scottybuzz 05-03-2008 09:46 AM

ken livingston had a good run, but i think it was time to get him out. but your right, his replacement isn't exactly perfect...

Fap 05-03-2008 11:32 AM

never been to london :(

I think he was/is an actual Londoner and I think he did a good job. I can get that he wasn't perfect and made some mistakes (particularly verbally in once important instance) and I can get that after 8 years change is in the wind. However, if you are at all familiar with Boris Johnson then you might be aware that his verbal fuckups are things of legends and make Ken look like a master of the English language.

Boris is book smart but bumbling and that is really fun to watch on tv but boy does it scare me with him a role of real importance.

I liked Brian Paddick, actually. He got my second preference vote. When they did the tv debate between the three of them I thought he really held his own.

Odin 05-05-2008 04:16 AM

The biggest problem with Ken was he was promoting a Muslim UK and Europe. Say what you will, but I think it's naive if you think this isn't happening, or feel that it will bring something positive to Western civilization. The writing is on the wall.

Sarah_Jayne 05-05-2008 04:27 AM

I don't think he was promoting a muslim anything but I do appreciate that some of the people he invited to the city were questionable. However, unless you actually live here and know the people he was running against it really isn't the same debate because there is more than that sort of thing to worry about. We have to use the trains, busses (which Ken did make better..busses that is), walk down the streets, etc. Boris has muslim ancestors if you really care about that kind of thing. Really, I just care than he comes across as an idiot (despite being smart) and in his past political roles has had to do nothing but apologize.

When I think to a possible future terrorist attack I can't say I feel safe with Boris at the head. Ken did handle that well at the time.

Kudles 05-05-2008 09:45 AM

It's ok this country is already going down the drain.

That long of any gov't and people start asking for change. I was here before the '97 election and it was the exact same mood but in the direction of the Torries. I worry about what the Torries would do with a mature internet.

Cherry7 05-05-2008 01:53 PM

Ken had his faults, but he was the only politician that actually tried to live like a normal guy in the street, to use the actual transport system he ran.

He also had a few radical ideas and didn't just speak the propaganda lies...

so yeah he spoke to the IRA ( he knew that the Irish problem had deep historical roots and the Brits had a lot to answer for and the IRA were not just "terrorists"...)

For this and other things the press hated Ken and waged a smear campaign against him...

At last they fooled enough stupid people to vote against him...and who do with have now, a fool, but a rich fool, product of the elite schools, he'll do what he's told and fuck us all up the arse

If he'd have gone to a state school he be working in a Tesco stacking shelves....

But if your rich in our fair land its all up for grabs

I think the fact that he actually uses the public transport system was one of the most valuable things about him as a mayor. Almost day one he made the one day travel cards valid on the night buses when they previously hadn't been. Now, that is small to some people, I know, but to me it showed me he understood the issues of the system even if he wasn't given full control of the tube, etc.

Boris is a cyclist which could have been one of the few good things about him as mayor but he is playing the motorist card in the suburbs (I live in one that he played well). I wonder when the last time he used a bus other than the campaign one.
