Big question for CCBILL regarding multi-currency
So I got to thinking, if we have a $9.99 signup option in USD, today CCBill is telling me it wants to charge me $10.64 CDN as a customer.
CCBill collects $10.64 CDN, and pays me out $9.99 USD. But according to today's rates, $10.64 CDN is really $10.44 USD. So whose getting the extra $0.45 ? I called a CCBill rep on the phone just now and didn't get a very clear answer, still confused. Am I missing something here, or is CCBill collecting a whole bunch of money that isn't getting paid back to webmasters? |
To the top with ya!

Something has to pay for all those sponsorships :pimp |
Seriously though it's a good question. Wonder how much could be skimmed through this method if thats the case. Could be millions a year.

With Regional Billing, CCbill is supposed to be paying you out the $10.44 from what I thought. That is the whole point of the regional billing, making you more from countries where the dollar is worth more, right? Did I miss someone saying you don't get paid for it?

I think regional billing is different than geoip, from my understanding from ccbill reps, who honestly have been great to us.
All I know is that the data we get back from ccbill includes A> the USD price ($9.99 for example) and a sort of text string that has the CDN price as well. CCBill pays out in USD. So for internal accounting, all I have to record is that we made $9.99 on the sale, and a foreign currency number that has no bearing on what we get paid. If we're getting more than $9.99 for the sale in USD because of currency conversions, then I don't know how we're supposed to know that. So maybe I'm just missing something, but I don't currently understand whose getting the difference in these situations. |
bump for an answer!

that's a very interesting question.

Ok, CCBill's response is that the rates are set by them, and they keep the extra money!!!
Holy fuck!! They're earning like 5% on people who choose to be billed in Canadian dollars right now, on everyone's sales, and *not passing that on* ??? What about all the other currencies? So this new geoIP thing is A> making porn more expensive for your customers and B> CCBill is profiting from it and C> we aren't. Nice. Another hand in the cookie jar? Hope I'm still wrong. Dear Client, The exchange rates are based off rates that we have within the system, and not the actual exchange rates at that time. We try and keep them as close as possible, but for payouts you will still receive the USD price that you set up. |
I'm sure it's in the fine print somewhere that we're allowing them to do this.

This can't be legal... I'm pretty sure that this is a HUGE AS FUCK amount we're talking about here on a yearly basis
Anyone big CCBILL program which some smart laywer who can look into this? |
hmm seriously interresting. How about the other currencies?

That has to be a SHITLOAD of extra cash for ccbill. |

What if the rate goes down? or do you just want to take the extra money and forget about if ccbill loses on the exchange?

Everyone does it when it comes to screwing over Canadian's on the exchange...especially ePassporte and Paypal
