Caller id spoofing? So instead of it saying private number it says a random number or someone elses? How is that legal?

Automated telemarketing is in violation of many FCC regulations. All you need to do is immediately after a call contact your phone company and file a complaint. Do it a couple of times and I assure you it will stop. The fines and repercussions that are brought up against the violators are quite insane. I know someone who had to move out of the country to avoid prosecution for pulling a fast one like that.

Correct.

When you answer the phone, before they get into their pitch, you ask them for the company name, mailing address, call back number and name. You explain that their number does not show up on your caller ID, and that is illegal.

Some will provide it. Others will hang up. By magic your solicitation calls will stop.

Most of them when you try to return the number it goes to disconnected number
