Honda fuel-cell cars for lease this year

Honda has finished thier fuel-cell prototype car and will start leasing them to the public in southern california this year.

http://automobiles.honda.com/fcx-clarity/

the technology behind that is amazing... it produces electricity without combustion, only emits heat and water vapor.

But the really cool thing... since Honda is a Japanese company, the greedy oil-based american politicians cant stop them, and Honda is big enough that the Oil Company Mafias cant scare them off.

only thing the website doesnt mention, is how much it costs to refill the hydrogen tank.

Honda is also working on a unit that can refill the car in your garage, and also provide power for your home. Now thats really cool.

I think that when the biggest engine maker in the world rolls out a fuel-cell powered, electric drive vehicle, that its really saying something.

Good stuff. If only the US spent the trillions they are spending in Iraq on getting off oil. But with oil prices going the way they are lets hope the market takes us there quickly anyway.

Hopefully hydrogen is produced with pollution free methods.

Even pollution dependent methods are a good start, as long as it isn't massively more polluting overall than gas powered cars - but I doubt that. Moving to pollution dependent hydrogen would at least remove the reliance on foreign oil from unstable regions of the world.

Woo fuel cell cars finally !

Wonder how long before we get these in Europe ?
Would be easier over here as the distances are smaller and so it would be easier to fit out the gas/petrol stations :thumbsup

Its a bit ugly though ,but then so a prius i guess :Oh crap.

oh my god that is awesome. although i don't fully understand the hydrogen idea, from what i've read and been informed of. hydrogen fuel cell technology is not only wicked expensive but very unrealistic. at least, compared to the electric/battery technology. sadly though, yeah those battery patents and technologies are now owned by Conoco I believe and sitting on a shelf somewhere until the gasoline runs dry. So hopefully this hydrogen fuelcell shit will actual work and stick and we'll be off our gasoline dependency. and off blowing so much money on it.

yes. i decided i didn't want to capitalize anything.

They have to import them.
