Is this business worth it now?

I have been in the biz for a little over 9 months now. I am no big player by any means and achieving big player status is a long ways off however as I sit here tonight I have to wonder with all that is going on is it worth it to continue on my present course?

I make a little money building and submitting galleries and AVS sites and things get a little better each month. I set aside a little bit each month so when I get ready to take the next step (pay site) I will be financially ready. I got into this business to have a little fun, make a little money, and one day set up a pay site using an endless supply of content that I have access to if I had the money.

I see the big guys getting bigger and the small guys getting squeezed out. Attrition in this business is very high and I suppose that is the nature of this biz but can a new guy make it here even if their ideas are not new and exclusive? I can accomplish anything I set my mind to but I wonder if I want to accomplish this or if it is worth all that it looks like I will be going through.

I know the standard answer "Get out now. There is no money in porn anymore."

Should I get out? Should I continue to do what I have been doing and bide my time? Should I borrow the money and set up a pay site using my ideas now? Or should I just Go Fuck Myself?

There is still a shitload of money to be made in this business, you just have to stay ahead of the game. Anyone who tells you to 'get out now' is probably just being an ass.

If you stick with it and don't give up you will be good to go.

Get out now. There's no money in porn any more.

If you don't have the financial backing, then yes, it's over, get out now before you get into debt you can't get out of.

Good advice....Very good advice..

I'd wait on the paysite. A good rule I learned, long time ago. If you are going to spend $10,000.00 you should have 3 times over and above that. Yes you can make money in porn, about the only thing you can make money on the Internet with... I had a small paysite years ago. My mistake. I went back to my free sites. I do Ok. Quit doing gallery's about 2 years ago. All the screwed up rules and not many TGP's have the same screwed up rules. If were to do any gallery's again, I'd just submit to thehun if I get listed fine.. if not no big deal. Gallery's are just 2 much trouble as far as am concerned. If you are making money it's most likly one hell of a lot better than a bunch of the poeple posting on this board. Also there are some pretty big guys posting here. Read this board and you will pick up bit's here and there... Just 2 other's one's I read but don't post to them..

There is money to be made in porn but not like before, there is allot of free shit out there & surfers are saying to themselves, why should I pay for a membership when I could get it for FREE! Their is way to many fuckin paysites out there, I think the time will come very soon, that allot of them will close doors, whoever wants to survive in this business, must shoot their own unique content, movies only! They must offer a 5.95 trial for three days, the 29.95 recurring will not be bought by surfers to much anymore. Marketing your product will be a big factor on how successful you are! Well, here is my 2 cents....

business is well worth it for me,been on a couple month hiatus just relaxing on thousands of rebills...First of the year comes my big push with my own program, shouldnt have a problem :winkwink: ...I will say though, the newbie ratio is going to drop in the next year, might even see some experienced webmasters/programs fuck up and drop like flies...gotta love that

andrew1009 10-14-2002 01:04 AM

The money's out there for anyone willing to work for it!

UnseenWorld 10-14-2002 01:25 AM

This business is getting less and less friendly to the quick buck artists, which isn't so bad after all. If you're willing to invest time and money, and if you have any kind of talent, you can still make it.

andrew1009 10-14-2002 01:36 AM

How much are you actually making now after 9 months? Took me 3 years to be able to make a living out of this.

I would rather not say andrew... but I will say that the house payment will be taken care of at the end of this month... I had a shit summer and have been a little bummed out after a very promising start in February. As I said things are getting better and since the summer has ended I have been been doing better... hopefully I can use the next 4 months of cold weather to build on what I have to sustain mayself through next summer and continue to grow... I have a plan but the hardest thing is sticking to it since I have other responsibilities and there are only so many hours in the day (I hate waking up with keyboard buttons imprinted in my face but it has happened and will continue to happen) but I will prevail... There is no way I am going to let the big guys get all the money. I will to be a porn webmaster! :thumbsup

As long as you don't make very generic stuff, it's still well worth it. Try to cater to very specific preferences or fetishes, so the surfer doesn't have the feeling he could get the same thing for free..

Don't believe what he said for a minute. You want to drop the trial altogether and give them a reasonable monthly fee. Maybe around 19.95.

and with that "movies only" requirement, don't believe that either. A lot of the big moneymaking sites have nothing but softcore pictures in them. There's always money to be made if you're a good photographer.

Eventually I'll get into some movies but I'm doing fine with mainly pics. There are angles and shots you can get of pussy and ass that a rip from a video just can't do. And it's those special angles that can get the surfer to look at that one special pic and jack himself off to completion using his imagination.

Once it's possible for most common people to CHEAPLY view at least 30 minutes of fullscreen video within seconds, then it will be viable to go into movies. As of now, you have to break the videos up and let them download the separate files. That shit is bogus.

Here's the latest from Jupiter Media Metrix... The mainstream view of the future of the porn industry online.

The question is, how much of that growth will be dominated by the big industry players, and how much by the seething masses of noooobs like me?

lol i bet thehun is like 1/5th of all that

kevinl 10-15-2002 02:47 AM

Where do you get that the big are getting bigger? All the public numbers I see say their revenues are slipping and if you know some of the non-marketing people for the bigger programs they say things are far off there all-time high.

Remember too that Ifriends and Bang Bus came out in a saturated market. They kicked ass.

Be different and be rich.

GTS Mark 10-15-2002 03:05 AM

Sex is the oldest business in the world. As long as there are horny people, there will continue to be lots of buyers...

The only difference will be in the continuing evolution of technology. If you can keep up to date with technology and the changing trends in the adult business there will be a place for you here...

As Larry Flynt once said. "There is always a market for people who supply quality."

Money exist in every industry, they difference is that the outsiders think that porn industry=easy money. Having in mind that the majority of the webmasters do not experience easy money at the moment, this is invalid.
