Attention GFY Punks & Metalheads: Recommend me some new bands/albums

The playlist is getting a bit repetitive again. I need some fresh noise in the mix. Anything Thrash, Metal, Hardcore, Crust, Punk, or real hillbilly Country...

I need some real connoisseur punkgeek hardcore snob shit, hah.

JayDeeZee 04-28-2008 10:55 AM

Avenged sevenfold has dominated my system lately.

Seether, Airbourne, Buckcherry

I'm not a full out metal head by any means but I'm a picky music connoisseur, and for heavy listening I go with:

- Refused ... fucking awesome hardcore punk.
- Queens Of The Stone Age ..
- High On Fire - Heavy stoner metal
- The Hot Snakes - Australian stoner metal
- The Dwarves - Rude, crude, ignorant redneck party rock?
- Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds - Dig, Lazarus,Dig.

Avenged sevenfold = angry 16 yr old? How does that equate? Is it an MTV thing.

I thought you were looking for newer bands that sort of fit this genre. They are young and the lead signer looks like a panzy. The guitar rocks! https://youtube.com/watch?v=H_UxCmFPoWE

I've been a lifelong metal head, but for the last few years I have really gotten into the whole horror surf rock genre, stuff like The Ghastly Ones, The Bomboras, The Nebulas, Satan's Pilgrims, and other groups like that. I don't do concerts much anymore, but the above bands put on some really fun shows. They are kind of like a horror movie version of Dick Dale...

The style their singer has, that whole melodic screamo thing that so many newschool metal/hardcore bands have going on, it just drives me insane. i really am not all that into the new wave of metal and hardcore. there is the odd hardcore band that i don't mind, Converge, Hatebreed, Pig Destroyer, that sort of thing I don't mind. When I pick up metal and thrash that i like I love big wailing solos, Slayer, Pantera, Suicidal Tendencies. Motorhead, Gwar, Venom, shit like that. Every now and then something newer comes along I do happen to like, like Children of Bodom, great band.

So far from what I've checked out in the thread I'm seeing some promise towards my likings from Meshuggah, Gojira, Mastadon, Dimmu Borgir. Actually I'm listening to some Mastadon right now and really liking it. There's still quite a bit I have to youtube up, but those ones have peeked my interest so far.

I figure if others are checking things out, I'll toss out my recommendations for bands, and maybe someone can feed off my interests and shoot some recommendations back. here's a list of stuff I've really been into

Crass, Rudimentary Peni, Bad Brains, The Crucifucks, Anthrax, Venom, DOA, NoMeansNo, Dayglo Abortions, GG Allin & Antiseen, Honey Bane (pre-popsellout), Judas Priest, Venom, Gwar, Minor Threat, Black Flag, Nig Heist, Dead Kennedies, Lard, Poison Idea, Vio-lence, Stormtroopers of Death, Nuclear Assault, Suicidal Tendencies, Slayer, SNFU, Danzig, Misfits, Millions of Dead Cops, The Casualties, Wednesday Night Heroes, Napalm Death.

What I'm really feeling for right now are some badass 80's metal solos. Screeching, squealing solos over thrashing riffs is definitely my shit. that or upbeat anarcho-crust. I love my Crass...

rediscovering old bands is often more rewarding.....

have you heard old Destruction (german very tight technical thrash)?

I like some new bands a bit like Nile... Lamb of God has some very good songs

some old hardcore is very listenable... Minor Threat were amazing for their time, still timeless

Destruction-Curse the Gods

https://youtube.com/watch?v=IPc1i4GVUzM

(the recording in the youtube doesn't do them justice, they are so intricate and the guitar acrobatics on that whole album are fucking amazing)

Eternal Ban is another great Destruction song, long fast riffing solos:

I can't tell you how many times I've fucked to Cheri Love Affair. ... :1orglaugh Always Was, Is, & Always Shall Be is one of my favorite albums ever. I had a little fling late last summer and this chickw as totally into GG, it was pretty great. She made my dream of fucking to Bring Back the Bomb by Gwar a reality too. Girlie had taste in music. She's the one who got me listening to Children of Bodom...

This all sounds like it's straight out of a Tarantino flick, haha. I'll have to dedicate a little bit of time into looking further into this genre. I don't know if it's something I'll flip over exactly, but there's definitely a few tunes there that are pretty good. Was liking some of the Satan's Pilgrims stuff.

They're screening HATED the GG Allin doc from a like ten years back. That dude is a raging lunatic.

d-null 04-28-2008 09:27 PM

this album is super hard to find, I bought it when it came out and was blown away by one song in particular and to this day it is one of the best evil death metal anthem type songs I think I've heard.....

I could only find a live recording of it, doesn't do the album version justice as the production on the album is so crystal clear and HEAVY

Immolation - Those Left Behind

https://youtube.com/watch?v=QNTC_gzgmuU

Metal Church - Metal Church --classic more in the priest/maiden genre--

https://youtube.com/watch?v=4YuStqEZ1fQ

in the Satanic type Death type vein, you must get Deicide's first album, amazing production quality

Deicide - Sacrificial Suicide -complete with blistering riffing and SATAN chants
