Just had a bit of a religious thought

Was looking at some pictures of storms like this, and realized that for people living hundreds, thousands of years ago.. That's a pure act of god right there. Dude is mad, and he's unleashing his fury. It would be 100% clear that there was a god, and he was angry.

Could be a large reason for religion being as huge as it is today still maybe.

Sure... But 500 years ago, even if you were sceptical and saw that, wouldn't that be total proof?

Can't think of anything that would have a profounder impact on someone's beliefs towards a higher being, no matter what they thought before.

That would just be the pussy gawds that make thunder and tornado's. Now if you want the fucked up ones think of say Earthquakes, Hurricanes, Tsunami's, Comets, Eclipses, Volcanoes, Toxic gas vents, and say meteor strikes. Then toss on easily finding fossil's laying about, or broken open in a cliff side.

"A lot of religious people claim that their god is omnipotent (all-powerful), this however leads to a lot of problems, which have been pointed out by numerous people. One of these problems is the consequences of the simple but a bit naïve question: "Can God create a rock that he can't lift?" If God can't do this, then he isn't omnipotent, and if he can, then he still isn't omnipotent, because then there is something, that he can't do – i.e. lift the rock."
