OpenSim - Adult Metaverse now building - Interested?

A month or so ago, I announced interest in building a virtual world run by adult sponsors and whatnot creating hangout, playpen, marketplace, whatever, left up to the imagination of the participants.. This is a very long term project that will be not only interesting, but experimental, and challenging.

First off, let me catch up those on what this is all about...
Adult Metaverse is a virtual world I (and perhaps you) am developing using the
software OpenSim "opensimulator.org" We run a grid of servers, in which case serve
regions to clients who connect and interact and build within the world. The OpenSim Software is still in its "Alpha" stages of being created.. so don't expect to be blown out of the water just yet. However it is allowing Second Life to expand to new levels and
is coming along very quickly development wise.. People and businesses from all over the
world are contributing..

Well things have been moving along, our grid is now online with 9 regions as
well as the master database system, and we are once again looking for
long term players our there who want to research, experience, and play up this angle.

So if you are interested in being some sort of Founding Pimp, hit me up on ICQ with any questions you may have, grab a second life client and log into the universe and watch it grow.... From bear bone land, to whatever becomes of it.

I know alot more about server costs and how things work now...
A region (aka sim) will cost $73/month. A sim is basically a dedicated server that contains your land region (65k meters) ($69 server fee, plus $4 service charge fee) This is a long term experience in which noone knows what will become of it.

I currently am focusing my weekend time and slow time to this project, and expect this community to possibly take years to establish itself. But anyhow,

For more info you can visit

which is also a work in progress :)

If you weren't building your own engine I'd tell you to check out unity3d. It allows full direct x9 3d content to be played through a web browser. I'm jumping into this stuff now and I'm starting a indy game company.

I'm planning to sell out of adult, in the next year or so and go full time into producing browser based 3d games. It's fucking awesome stuff and it's still a developing area with lots of room to expand.

I'm just now getting started on a ww2 tank game for my first project.

wewps forgot to add my ICQ
It is 2446699

Many might wanna know how to connect to this world
You need the Second Life Viewer or a clone
http://www.secondlife.com
or http://www.realxtend.org is an alternative choice

create a copy of the startup shortcut and add this part to the end of start line
-loginuri http://grid.adultmetaverse.com:8002

(first you need to create an account at http://www.adultmetaverse.com) obviously.

As a former owner of a gaming company this stuff always makes me wanna get back in.

Does the software come with an editor built in or?
Do people build their own stuff or will someone build it for them?

Best regards
Mike

The viewer is an editor as long as you are on grounds that permit you to
create.. you create shapes, and mold them using pretty nifty toolset that allows you to create virtually anything, then using textures and whatnot you really bring it to life.

It also has a scripting language, and unlike SL, it has the ability to code in LSL, javascript, C#, etc) with scripting you bring things alive, such as rotating prims, making guns shoot, creating animations, create a game, and more.

It also has a particle engine so you can make some crazy effects.

oh yeah, also companies are working on bringing meshes into the mix, so not stuck with default LL avatars... think of bringing in your Giant Frost Demon you created in 3DS? well in time that will be reality... along with all its animations and more

DaLord 04-27-2008 03:48 PM

Sounds pretty cool.

Ill send some time on it tomorrow and see if I can figure it out.

But with income in mind, what will be the main source of income for anyone being a part of this? Selling access to sites, trying to promote something or just simply going nuts and not think about money?

We designed a giant city using the Unreal engine years ago but got so caught up with it that things got out of hand. While it was cool to be able to do weird things the reality died and people somehow like reality. As soon as we removed the weird things people got more interested again and started coming back.

its a branding thing in my mind, streaming video, clothes with your name on it... you create your land and promote your website and stuff... commerice is being planned thru
many ideas, set forth from all contributors and meetings and ideas, but is not really main focus at this point.. there are companies interested in providing means for income.... i believe firstmeta.com provides a card solely for use inside virtual worlds and is looking into OpenSim...

this part of the world will come to be but its future is not written yet... which is why this is me promoting it as "research time" and not so much a investment...

we can be pioneers or be shutout, one thing is for sure, the internet is not going to last in 2d for much longer

I think over the long term this has huge potential. Adding this to my list of things to look at.

mike-al 04-27-2008 05:30 PM

I will try to get up some streaming video and other cool stuff this week, I just need time, i am working full time, then i spend a bit of time on this, and I have to manage grid, make website, create my inside world.... and promote the grid as well....

I was looking through the site and was checking out the news section and noticed an error. Just a small grammatical error, but should still be fixed.
