Where is the cheapest place to get IPs ?

$1 per extra IP per month is a little harsh when you want 70. Anyone know of a deal?

baddog 04-26-2008 08:00 PM

$1 is about standard. I give customers "extra" IP's at $.50/ea but they already got 50 to get that rate.

I have seen places suggesting $2/ea.

GrouchyAdmin 04-26-2008 08:00 PM

That's pretty standard, but I'll tell you what. You can have all of 192.168.0.1-255 on me.

If $1.00 is pricey, what do you have in mind .... :warning

$1/ip is pretty much the norm. Maybe with volume and you can knock it down, but don't expect much of a drop.

Excellent point.

rowan 04-26-2008 11:25 PM

$1 is just an arbitrary value, the actual amount that the hosts pay is much less than that.

That arbitrary amount will probably start creeping up soon, better to have some IPs at $5 a pop than none left at all. :2 cents:

It isn't just how much we pay for them, it is what we can do with them.

Thus my second sentence.

If a host or end user can justify their usage, they can get 65536 IPs for $4500... 14c an IP per year, or a bit over 1c per IP per month.

There has been alot oftalk lately about ip space on gfy, and it amazes me how anyone would be bitching about a $1 an ip.

Thats probally the best $1 a month you could ever spend, if you know what your doing with that ip. But then again this is GFY so i dont expect too much.

Yes but you have to think how many customers can you put on dedicateds/VPS nodes in exchange for someone using 100 ips? Is +100/Month worth a potential say 100 VPS's @ 24.95/month or 2500/Month in revenue?

IP space is getting harder to get approved. No longer can hosting companies use the "i'll re-number out of my old IP space from X tier 1 carrier" Arin now says great, keep that IP space you don't need to re-number and decline applications. Not sure how many hosts are good at BSing arin when they are giving IP's out for "seo" reasons. Arin is cracking down and its going to become much harder to obtain new allocations.

I'll see your /16 and raise you 172.16.0.0-172.31.255.255 and 10.0.0.0/8 ftw.

You guys know you can pick _ANY_ ip out of those ranges and use it if it doesn't ping already, right? Little know secret. Fuckin pay a dollar for an ip, pffft.

Kick Ass Chat 04-27-2008 12:51 PM

I've been with Techiemedia for years now and they give me all the ip's I ever need as long as they are in use with no charges, I have like 200 ish now.:2 cents:
