Why do we still use ICQ?

What's the deal? Does SilverCash own ICQ or something?

I couldn't log in all day some dumb error message like.

"Too many connections from your country at this time"

WTF?!?!

GrouchyAdmin 04-25-2008 01:54 PM

Blame Canada.

because I haven't found a good enough reason to switch to anything else yet.

Persius 04-25-2008 01:58 PM

too many people have it

OTerror 04-25-2008 02:12 PM

it's the standard for some reason.

Doug of Montreal 04-25-2008 02:17 PM

I can't believe they've had such a hold on adult for so long. It's shameful... you'd think being like the first into the market, they'd have stuff worked out by now.

Rochard 04-25-2008 02:21 PM

We've been using it since it came out and no one has offered up anything better or a valid reason for us to change over - not to mention we don't want to have to change contact information all over the place.

mona 04-25-2008 02:22 PM

Mine hasn't worked for two weeks! I uninstalled, reinstalled, and it worked for a couple seconds. I'm a HUGE skype fan.

ppixel01 04-25-2008 02:27 PM

no reason to switch, i got error free :)

D Ghost 04-25-2008 02:29 PM

Because George W. Bush is "The Decider" - what you didnt get that memo from the White House?

farkedup 04-25-2008 02:42 PM

msn is so much better imo

AdPatron 04-25-2008 03:12 PM

I havnt had any problems with ICQ

ztik 04-25-2008 03:19 PM

Its only the adult industry that uses icq. No others do.

I personally haven't opened mine for almost 3 months

Vick! 04-25-2008 03:20 PM

Its old shit, hard to get off it.

I hope everyone started using GTalk some day .. I love its ability to save logs on web, no hassle to save and access them from any PC, laptop .. anywhere in the world. Plus, built-in email system makes it even better than goddamn ICQ.

icq is my main account, but I use it through Trillian. I haven't used the actual icq software for a few years now.

crockett 04-25-2008 05:05 PM

Cause skype don't have short ICQ numbers..

scottybuzz 04-25-2008 05:26 PM

Bama 04-25-2008 06:54 PM

The only reason I still use it is because most of my contacts don't use skype.

I've used ICQ since it was beta release but it has too many issues with connectivity to make it into one of my "favorite programs I use to do business with" list.

Add me to your skype - user name: bama_wa

CIVMatt 04-25-2008 06:55 PM

icq is so shitty it hurts

papill0n 04-25-2008 07:39 PM

ICQ works fine for me.

CunningStunt 04-25-2008 07:49 PM

I reinstalled ICQ last week only to uninstall it ten minutes later. Piece of crap.

Force installed a toolbar on IE and Firefox somehow, added itself to the search bar, and created about a dozen entries I fucked out of the registry. Assholes.

Spunky 04-25-2008 08:00 PM

Why does the bear shit in the woods?

woj 04-25-2008 09:06 PM

What's wrong with it? All other chat networks are basically the same...

2012 04-25-2008 09:07 PM

its the greatest with all the best features :thumbsup

Virtual Sophie 04-25-2008 11:58 PM

maybe l dont go with the trend, but l have used yahoo for many years without any problem and used it for voice communication long before skype.

Have you ever tried a custom install?

agreed, I prefer skype cause:

- it supports free P2P voice and video calls:thumbsup
- unlimited contacts (I have 2 ICQ accounts that are "full"):helpme
- no annoying guitar riff birthday alerts:mad:
- 'gentle' sound alerts when pinged:D
- supports threesomes:winkwink:
- nice simple emoticons:)

Whilst ICQ is still the AWM industry standard for IM but hopefully more will migrate to skype...

What's the limit for icq contacts?

k0nr4d 04-26-2008 03:58 AM

I agree that outside of porn no one likely uses ICQ anymore. However, There's no good way to coordinate the entire industry to switchover to something else... We'd have to sticky a thread on every forum at the very least.

GrouchyAdmin 04-26-2008 04:00 AM

I use a client capable of connecting to virtually everything; I intentionally avoid skype for two reasons: My sound driver is only supported as an output device in my OS of choice - and I don't really want to talk to most people. It's much more efficient to get things done over ICQ and email.. and a drunken email is much easier to ignore.

You simply haven't been looking hard enough... they are ALL better than ICQ, by a wide margin. But at least your second point is honest, that's the reason I keep getting from people.

Personally, I barely log onto ICQ anymore. And I almost never accept new Contact requests. I am trying to (slowly) let everyone know I can be found elsewhere and if they don't want to make the switch, too bad. There's always email.
:thumbsup

Never had a toolbar installed here, and unfortunately, I have done several installs of ICQ lately . . . all different versions.

Bojangles 04-26-2008 04:20 PM

ICQ is awesome.

don't compare Skype to ICQ.
ICQ is used for text instant messaging and Skype is for voice: you need to talk to some one in another country ? Skype is the thing for you. it's free. and as long as both your Internet connection is good enough - the quality is great.
I think everyone should have Skype

raven1083 04-27-2008 06:04 AM

coz' nothing compare ICQ!

Actually it's my fault. I AM very loved by many people - they all hit me up all day, and they want me to meet them or pay their plane fare from St Petersburgh to Canada...

So let me apologize... I may pick one soon so I can have someone to bear my puppies and cook our food, and then I'll just delete my IQ account.

Ok?
