A group of nine swimmers entered the water near Fletcher Cove at about 6:30 a.m. for their daily ocean swim, according to witnesses.
I see sharks go fishing the same time people do.

I guess you would not want to know that the majority of attacks happen in that shallow of water :winkwink:

mikesouth 04-25-2008 01:12 PM

Truth is shark attacks are rare, you are more likely to die from bee stings, lightning strikes and a lot of other stuff. Great whites roam the cali coast so thats no surprise. but figuring you get what 1 maybe 2 hits a year, figure how many people are in the water all year...

everybody has to die sometime, ask Steve Irwin...oh wait...

uno 04-25-2008 01:26 PM

I can't believe this is making up at least half of the news coverage today.

For San Diego, it's a big deal. It's been 50 years since someone was killed by a shark here.

For a beach community, it's jarring.

As far as the rest of the country? Well, "SHARK ATTACK!" certainly makes a good headline.

"SHARK ATTACKS BRITTNEY!" would be even better.

Supz 04-25-2008 01:31 PM

sucks to be him. thats why i keep my ass in the pool

markz08 04-25-2008 01:32 PM

This shows that we can't really pretend what will happened next...sad but true...

ProjectNaked 04-25-2008 01:32 PM

If you don't get in the water the sharks can't eat you. You play around on their dinner plate and you are dinner - simple as that. If you were meant to be in the ocean you would have gills and fins.

Pics Traffic 04-25-2008 01:33 PM

that beach will be empty for a while now

LauraLee 04-25-2008 01:52 PM

Geez, of all the sharks it had to be a Great White. Incredible and sad :(

We need to get you some shark repellent mister!

JJSLIMM 04-25-2008 02:16 PM

Sad shit!!!!!!

MakingItPay 04-25-2008 02:31 PM

That sucks the most. I don't get in the ocean without this. SharkShield

It takes some getting used to, as I have the one you wear on your ankle but I like the peace of mind that if a Shark is sniffing around me he will not want to stay.

Wagerboy 04-25-2008 02:43 PM

Hal---I gotta ask, what would an apartment that close to the water cost in San Diego? Im in NY so I have no clue, I was told a room in SD is like 1000/month.

Remember boys and girls, you don't have to out swim the shark, just the people you're with.

Busty 04-25-2008 03:53 PM

Man I was swimming masters at lunch with some guys today and they told me about this, what a shitty way to go. No rush to hit the water yet until I can go without a suit, don't want to be looking like a seal for this rogue white out there

Drake 04-25-2008 05:23 PM

I think they prefer fish and seal meat much more, but once in awhile a person will get attacked and eaten. Such is life.
