Why do people put on their cars all those idiotic pictures and slogans? (PIC)

Now we have here a serious pop culture / sociological problem to analyze today:

I just thought about this while driving yesterday..

Why the hell do people have the tendency to put on their cars all those shit corny slogans, silly pics or anything at all?

Who in the right mind will put on his car all those phrases like... well you all know what kind of weird, embarassing, senseless idiotic things do people put up on their cars..

Is that a neccessary reminder of that the person suffers from serious self esteem issues, therefore it can't loose any chance to whore attention, even when driving?

Putting there a name of a band or your favourite sports team is still more or less acceptable and I still can somehow understand the overexposed will to show your support, but having to wait in a traffic jam behind the guy with something very smart and funny like "if it has wheels or tits it's trouble ahead!" on the back of his car.. it's always a very intense moment to me..

Here are some examples, thanks to CDSMITH for sharing.

thsoe are funny

ProjectNaked 04-25-2008 10:01 AM

some good ones in there :thumbsup

SykkBoy 04-25-2008 10:03 AM

I was going to put a bunch of those little stick figures on my car to represent me and the kids, but realized I'd almost have to wrap them all the way around the car ;-))

actually, some people have even taken the stick figure family thing too far by including pets, dead relatives, neighbors, the pedophile down the street and the nice cashier at the restaurant they eat dinner at on Sunday evenings....yeesh...

PornMogul 04-25-2008 10:05 AM

agreed some funny ones in there. Usually I see old Kerry edwards stickers LOL, I guess they just put that over the bush cheney ones now that bush is hated by all

Brother Bilo 04-25-2008 10:07 AM

I have to admit that some of them are pretty funny, but I would never put a sticker on my truck....ever.

I'm dreading the day I have a kid that makes student of the month or something and I have to try and get out of putting one of those bumper stickers on my truck.

Cyndalie 04-25-2008 10:21 AM

I saw a great one yesterday. It said:

"Bush is a Natural Disaster"

It's overkill in my area. Everyone has them. If you don't, you can sense people want to spit on your car.
I like the gay parents one.

lol

:1orglaugh , those are indeed funny and annoying! but then again, it's what they want.

You can lso put a sticker on your car saying, take those shitty stickers out on their car! lol :helpme

arial 04-25-2008 11:14 AM

Fuck that why do people insist on putting those dumb ass spoilers on Honda's?

Babaganoosh 04-25-2008 11:14 AM

I don't understand them either. The ones that really mystify me are the ones women put on their cars proclaiming what a bitch they are.

All I have is a very unobtrusive University of Kansas sticker on my back window. I live in the same town as KU so it's pretty common to see KU or Jayhawk stickers on cars.

Dude, that's a bolt on 15hp gain! Didn't you know? Besides, at the extreme speeds that Hondas are known for, you NEED that downforce.

GrouchyAdmin 04-25-2008 11:21 AM

Check out my Air Jordans, man. They're legit. Check out the huge swoop.

Vick! 04-25-2008 12:59 PM

Why you choose nickname "CarlosTheGaucho"? Its pure idiotic and senseless to me.

Why you didn't made it your first/last name?
Why you didn't made it simple, like abcdefg, abc123456, etc.?

Something you think is stupid, could be funny, someone's passion or something for others .. its all about their personal choice. Those are their cars, they choose what to put on. They don't ask you to put one.

Stop judging others, no one likes to be judged.

After Shock Media 04-25-2008 01:04 PM

I would associate it with self esteem issues or attention whore issues as much as someone who decided to get a expensive car.

It's actually not me who chose that, but I sticked to it. And I sure don't have it on my business card.

Actually, those that are pictured are probably something as the top of the crops, I have seen way worse that seriously wouldn't amuse a monkey, and that already tells you something.

I don't dispute anyone's right to be an idiot, but I also won't let anyone dispute my right to point at it.

Kudles 04-25-2008 01:24 PM

Well said to the peep hanging on your nic. As far as the bumper stickers, I think they are silly but I enjoy reading them, every now and again when I see one that is good. I think only a handful of times I have actually laughed at one. People just like to put their point of view in the face of others, especially the political ones. What is funny about those peeps is they usually are the ones who bitch and moan about religious people expressing their points of view, but it's okay for them to do push their views on others. haha Some people walk around claiming to be open minded but those are the ones who are usually open minded to one point of view, THEIR OWN.

The honor roll student sticker, and student of the month sticker, I totally get, but they should make those in magnets because their kids are going to grow up and achieve other accomplishments that should be praised by Mom and Dad. So magnets would be better because it's easier to change out.

woj 04-25-2008 01:55 PM

"gas, grass or ass" one is great :1orglaugh

Yes, well I mean I never mentioned it's not possible to put something funny into a couple of square inches and some of those that are on the picture have some invention, I more like thought about something more extreme, something like this:

http://www.bumperart.com/ProductImag...Display-35.gif

A pure dementia...

Anyway, why would I put there something about:

a) my political views
b) my religious believs
c) state of my mental potential

Is that a way how to get easily identified by the fellow tribesmen?

bausch 04-25-2008 02:29 PM

Yeah, I have seen that pretty much everywhere I have been..

Elli 04-25-2008 03:47 PM

i don't mind bumper stickers if they're original and/or funny. What I can't stand is regular cars with brands plastered all over them, like your claptrap CRX is sponsored or something. If I can't tell those are Falken tires or wheels just by looking at them, then I probably don't care. You don't need to put their name all across your windshield. Same goes for Spoon, etc etc etc.

nothing is worse than having a bunch of stickers for brands that aren't even ON THE CAR! With every sticker I get with a part I simply throw the sticker away! I'm not advertising for something that I PAID for! If they want to give me shit for free I might put a sticker on ONLY if the part was $1k+

what's the purpose of that one? I also discussed that recently and couldn't figure that out..

M0nk 04-25-2008 04:42 PM

hehehe funny stuff!!

nico-t 04-25-2008 04:47 PM

i agree it's definately attention whorish behavior. Only talking about the 'funny' bumper stickers in the example pic here. The only motivation i can think of of people who put those on their car is wanting attention.

DBS.US 04-25-2008 04:56 PM

I don't even know why they drive around with the dealer plate frame "Jackson Toyota-Compton California"

I'll admit, if I see that I back the fuck off of them if I'm actually close enough to read it. Its one thing to tailgate some fucker barely passing but if they likely have a baby on board I'll just mark them off as driving safely for their kids.

A large soccer mum 4WD SUV with a "baby on board" tag doesn't really strike me as "safe"...

sicone 04-25-2008 08:27 PM

some damn funny ones there
