As far as I understand it no stars actually collide when galaxies "smashes together"

It's crazy to think of what's happening when you get right in there.
If only they had a video camera that could zoom enough to see everything inside as it all comes together.

I a lot of it is going so fast that we couldn't even see it anyway. But to think of just how much is happening in there....

In fact, with that many entire galaxies in action, it's not unreasonable to think that at least one of them could have sustained intelligent life at one point. Imagine what those guys went through once their galaxy started to get pulled away.

What scares me the most, is the distances between everthing in space. I mean can you fathum how far 11.4 billion light years away is?

dready 04-25-2008 07:22 AM

I got some awesome prints of Hubble images from this company called Sky Image Lab. They do a really nice job.

i was watching "The Universe" last season and they talked about colliding galaxies & they said that none of the stars actually collide...thats amazing to think that there's that much distance between the individual stars in the "colliding" galaxies that they dont even touch!!
