Thank god i get 10,000 spam mails a day (seriously) And a question!!!

Today i accidentally double clicked an e-mail....which if you know anything about security, you know worms are the most dangerous of the "viruses" out there...Since their signature changes so often its usually days/weeks before scanners pick them up. And they are so small if one was custom made & only sent to a few people, they would never get picked up as a virus on your scanner...for maybe a year +.... And usually worms come in the form of...you guessed it...EMAIL.

So today I'm thankful for my male enhancement e-mail spam....At least double clicking that didn't lead to a 4 hour worm search & destroy.

Now for the question.

Which program would you suggest for ONLY e-mail protection. I want something lightweight...easy on the CPU & RAM...and can be used as a stand alone that runs only when checking e-mail.

Would love to hear about some solutions for this as well.

GrouchyAdmin 04-24-2008 09:49 PM

Filter anything that's not text/plain or text/html. Oddly, this has a 100% success rate except for stupidity.

Spunky 04-24-2008 09:55 PM

All programs are hogs.try going through multiple filters and risk losing some legit

I'm a satisfied spam arrest customer, I'm sure a more picky individual would find problems with it, but for me it's been great, the only annoyance is the delay of delivering messages when I signup to a CCBill program for example and need the code right away, or after signing up to a forum.. Then you have to login to their webadmin and tell it to check manually.

I just don't really get any spam anymore

Upgrade to windows mail and use the default settings. It gets about 90% of my spam

Disable html in mails, always read them as text-only, careful with the links. End of that story.

just use nod32 you can't get any lighter on the system and it's updated daily.

Adultnet 04-25-2008 03:46 AM

are you looking for a custom made software ? :)

Adultnet 04-25-2008 03:49 AM

If you use a custom mail software / mail box ..
you can setup a small mail forward rule to gmail and then get it back to your mail software by adding a rule to google or using pop/imap :)
They have a great filter . :pimp

justsexxx 04-25-2008 04:45 AM

Not sure if this is what you want/need. BUT

I use spamassasin on the server. I had isprime set it up with score higher
than 4.5 --->delete.
It checks for bad words, but also IP adress, sorb lists, dns lists etc. I have to check the exact settings, but forst it didnt help, but now with the new settings I only get like 3-4 spams a day(text only) in stead of 1000 or so.

For my system I use kaspersky. They are very very good, fast, and it simply finds every virus/worm. Great combination for me

acehigh 04-25-2008 04:57 AM

would suggest fusemail.
they have a real good spam filtering system.

and I did this, and do it as often as needed:

set up an auto-responder to the mailbox you have now that says "I am protecting my self from spam, please email me at the new address listed on www.blahblah.com" make them click something to find your new address so the spam bot doesn't pick it up, and make that address on the site
name (@) domain (.) com
so spiders don't grab it

i do have html disabled....i have to click on "allow html & images" by hand for it to load newsletters from sponsors etc.

but the plain fact is....if someone was directly targeting me, they would probably fake a mail from a sponsor etc.

thank you very much....I installed it last night, definitely the first anti-virus I've ever considered buying, whats the license fee going to be on it after the free 30 days?

I'm sorry but i refuse to make my new clients type in captchas....John Albright made a post a while back about having to pay over $200 a month in order to just send his newsletter out....and it still WOULDN'T whitelist him automatically or anything.
