hopefully this will be overturned shortly. Otherwise, this can start a really bad trend especially for merchants would could be faced with trying to keep up with the tax laws of thousands of municipalities. Think about what would happen if they extend this to small businesses. Each of your sales could end up being subject to a different tax law.

I dont think that is what that means.

Must mean the customer will be charged NY State tax...

I believe other states do this also.. I've read on forums about people thinking they are illegally being charged tax...

even tho they are buying from outside that state..

I hope that only applies to New Yorkers - California web businesses only charge taxes when you are purchasing within California.

That will suck for me if NY starts charging me taxes on internet purchases, and that will in turn hurt B&H Photo and Video whom I make lots of purchases from each year...

:Oh crap

Good point on B&H. One of the reasons we buy from them is the tax savings. If they start chargeing sales tax, it's better to buy equipment locally where the sales tax is 7%

it would suck but for gear i would still use bh , no place near me matches their prices or inventory.

They have it backwards. What they need to do is place an extra tax on all companies who don't do more than 70% of their business online. This will free up much needed space in NYC that can be converted into houses!

rochard for governor of ny :)

interesting

Ah fuck them. They should just be able to charge if that company has a brick and mortar store and the buyer also lives in NY.

"New York is now telling Amazon and certain other large Internet-only vendors they must collect state and local sales tax -- if they allow sales via "click-throughs" from New York-based Web sites."

Sounds like this involves affiliate traffic only. If the affiliate is from NY, then his NY traffic (but possibly all traffic?) must be taxed.
