Do you play Guitar Hero?

I have mastered the "medium" level and am moving on to "hard".

I must admit it is quite the jump to adding that 5th button.
Anyone got any tips or tricks to make the transition?

PennyLane (not Flame) 04-23-2008 11:29 AM

practice practice practice

Moe 04-23-2008 11:37 AM

Its a BIG move from Medium to Hard - it takes a while to get used to moving your hands across the keys :thumbsup

The Adult Broker 04-23-2008 11:38 AM

I bought it for my daughter for the holiday and I am the one who plays it LOL on easy

magicmike 04-23-2008 11:38 AM

I find you have to find a couple ways to play different notes / chords to the point that your not thinking about it but just doing it.

from time to time i get a chance to play. it's a fun game. after awhile I just rather play my real guitar though :)

tyler (durden) 04-23-2008 11:42 AM

i was obsessed with Guitar Hero 2...tried in vain to beat Freebird on expert for countless hours. came within 10 seconds of beating it and I almost cried...yeh I'm lame

on a side note I've been really addicted to Rock Band drums lately. way more fun than Guitar Hero and a lot more challenging. it has even improved my overall coordination and rhythm. after playing them for awhile i even went back to play Guitar Hero 3 after not playing it for months and was able to beat several songs on expert (Knights of Cydonia) after only being able to play on Hard previously.

madfuck 04-23-2008 11:43 AM

practice makes perfact!!!!! lol

selena 04-23-2008 11:47 AM

We got it for the Wii not long ago, and I totally suck at it, but love to play.

I have improved to where I don't get booed off the stage on most of the easy songs though. :D

DiamondJames 04-23-2008 11:48 AM

I used to be completely obsessed with GH3. I started on easy then moved to medium. Hard just frustrated me so I gave up lol. I can 5 star everything on medium though (except the crazy shit like "Through The Fire and Flames").

This is what I am noticing. I guess I just have to keep practicing.

Best advice I could give is, especially for chords, is to keep your fingers in the same position and move your hand instead. Like for instance, if you have a green and yellow chord and a blue and red comes up next, just keep your fingers in the same position and move your hand down, rather than trying to just use different fingers.

If you can make out what I just wrote, that's what really helped me.

Scott McD 04-23-2008 12:17 PM

I actually got bored of it rather quickly...

candyflip 04-23-2008 12:31 PM

I still love Guitar Hero, but Rockband, in my opinion is much more fun. They just had the first full album release of new downloadable material, which was Judas Priest's Screaming for Vengence.

aico 04-23-2008 12:34 PM

always play the bottom 4, it's easier & faster to reach up with your pointer finger than down with your pinky.

I'm going to try that for awhile. Thanks.

this is my problem too, im still trying to figure out a method that works for me.

bronco67 04-23-2008 02:46 PM

Knowing where you are at all times is a must. Never forget to use that little bump that lets you know which finger is on yellow. I must have played Cherub Rock on the slowest practice setting about 100 times, part by part and I still can't get it right. I need a practice speed below the last one called "Retard". Funny thing is, I can bang out that song on my acoustic like nobody's business, but I can't play it on my stupid little plastic game guitar.

Also, sitting FUCKING KILLS my wrists. Something about playing while holding the hands up higher. Standing always works better for me, and playing in the morning when I'm sharpest -- although, I've found that it's the same with real guitar in this aspect...you can practice this one tricky part of a song over and over before you go to bed, and no matter how bad you sucked before you give up for the evening, you will magically be better the next day when you try again.

It won't seem like you got anything out of it while torturing yourself, but it sinks in while your away and the muscle memory kicks in the next session.

Jman 04-23-2008 02:51 PM

Although that game is hell of fun I think it's time to hit the driving range bro... Golf = Pratice practice, practice ;-)

mryellow 04-23-2008 04:13 PM

It's stupid.

Why teach kids to press buttons when they could just buy a real guitar and learn a real skill.

Yeah, well -- it's a game. That's all. I play guitar and I love GH.

It's just combining a love of vid games with a love of rock music. It's not trying to be a substitute for learning the real thing. Does anyone say that Madden is stupid and people should go strap on shoulder pads and play tackle football?

Do I have to join the army, or can i just play Call of Duty and skip the whole getting bullets in my ass thing?

Well, with Madden and Call of Duty and 99% of other games, the gameplay is a bit more advanced, some thought process is required, even some strategy perhaps... with guitar hero, it seems pretty mindless, something one could teach a 5 year old to play... not really my thing, but if people enjoy it, then that's great I guess :thumbsup

Well, there's a little more to it than what you think...

Complication does not a good game make.:winkwink:

The whole idea behind the game was to get kids to enjoy playing music (even if they aren't) and the proper dexterity and hand coordination needed to play the real instrument.

A couple of years ago I got our son a guitar for Christmas, he got so frustrated with it that he gave up pretty quickly.

Guitar Hero (he plays on expert) has gotten him interested in playing the guitar again and I think he is doing much better because of his playing the game... his finger coordination is much better and they are a lot stronger and quicker.

I think the game is great if it gets kids interested in music and learning an instrument.

Poindexterity 04-23-2008 07:51 PM

rockband is better across the board save one thing.

there are programs that allow you to take any song you want and put
that fucker into guitar hero.

no such program yet exists for rockband, thus it will still be quite
some time before i get to play bass for the beastie boys.

That sounds like a good idea. I've been working on hard too.. I find that playing on of the easy songs that I'm really good at over a few times in a row has helped. I don't fail at least! :)

Violetta 04-23-2008 11:21 PM

no, but I bought a new guitar yesterday! :)

brandonstills 04-24-2008 12:54 AM

Play it here and there. Passed 40% of the songs on expert.

flashfire 04-24-2008 03:15 AM

I like the drums in rock band more but still bust out the guitar from time to time

That's impressive. How many stars per song? I like to play one until I get 5 stars out of it.

scorehero.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5925 - You have to add all the keys by hand though..

Azlord 05-07-2008 11:07 AM

Can't beat Lou on Expert :(
5 starred easy, medium, and hard.

TubeTitans_SusieQ 05-07-2008 11:15 AM

I looooove guitar hero... on easy lol

Penny Flame 05-07-2008 12:16 PM

After an afternoon of playing GH3 at AVN, I decided I need this game like a ho needs a pimp. So after playing, (and I mean I left AVN and went straight to FRY's) I go to buy the game, at which point my girlfriend Angie calls me and says:

A: "You better not be at Fry's buying guitar hero"
Me: "I'm not at Fry's buying Guitar hero" (I was in the parking lot, about to go in and purchase)
A: "If you buy that fucking game I will never see you again. You will stop working, eating, fucking, living, and will exist only in your house, with your guitar. Hero.
Me: "You really do know me!"

I left the parking lot and never looked back. I have very little self control, so its better if I just drop by other peoples houses to play. Although I am interested in starting Rock Band competitions with all my girlies....maybe something to look for on http://www.PennyFlame.com???
