AVN.com - A pop up trying to sell me VOD time? Come on....

Everyone knows you guys are struggling but popping ads when we go to read adult news in an attempt to get us to pay per minute to watch porn, you truly have lost touch with the industry. :2 cents:

They're whores. Did you expect anything else from them?

why did you remove viva xbiz from your original post?and replace it with the 2 cents logo?.
Maybe it showed you had a favorite of the 2 ?

Anyway I dont work for either so thats of no real importance.

Maybe it was a mistake? maybe they are trying different marketing methods? does it mean someone is struggling when they try different ideas?

Trying to sell porn to adult webmasters, real smart idea ;)

I know some webmasters aiin't too smart, but insulting the intelligence of your other smart webmasters is not the best plan :)

I posted it thinking it was cute at first then thought it was not needed after I read it. I really don't have a favorite so no reason to make it look like I do.

You dont think adult webmasters dont buy porn ..I for sure can show you different :winkwink:

Actually my point was as I mentioned before it could have been a mistake or they could be just trying different ideas/methods.

If you dont try how would you ever find out ?

Even for a new marketing idea that is pretty dumb. Why do they want to cheapen the site when they already make their money via paid ads on the site? To pop a window on me, on an adult industry news site, is just cheap.

If I wanted free VOD time I would just call my friends there and ask them to set me up with it.

I would understand if it was mostly a porn consumer website. Sure, go for it. But it's not. At least I don't think it is. And if it is, AVN = fail.

Doctor Dre 04-22-2008 12:16 AM

No point in arguing DWB... :P

I know. But it's AVN, not Porn.com. If anything they should be trying to pop ad rates to us or discounts. Trying to sell us anything else is just tacky.

I agree 100 percent totally with you DWB ,I think totally the same as you do,I was just putting over a fact that every business should try different out of the box marketing ideas ,(Im not saying this was a smart one)

He never said AVN shouldn't try new stuff, he simply said it was a bad idea... why did you argue in the first place if you agree?

Thanks Smokey :thumbsup

AVN.com has a lot of surfer traffic in addition to being a resource for the Video biz/Adult Web biz.

... and that's not necessarily a bad thing

It makes sense to me that they'd want to strike a balance between Video biz /Web biz/surfers and monetize it all.

:2 cents:

Then AVNonline.com would be a better place for such an ad. :2 cents:

Good point J$. I would think that if they want to earn money off of surfers, they would do it in a manner than did not piss of the very people who are giving them money for ads, paying their bills in the first place.

Pop-ups are so invasive and rude. For AVN to pop a screen on me is like them saying "fuck you we would rather cater to surfers" all while taking as much money from the industry as they can be it ads or high rates for booths at their dying shows. I don't fault them for trying to make a buck, I just think a pop-up for industry people is low class coming from such an organization.

Perhaps a button at the top with all the rest of the buttons that says "FREE PORN" would be a little less intrusive. Programs do the same, most give an option for "PORN" or "WEBMASTERS" as you enter their index page. No pop-ups for surfers there because they respect the webmasters.

Kimo 04-22-2008 05:10 AM

popups suck cock no matter what site they are on

Jace 04-22-2008 05:33 AM

avn hasn't EVER had a grasp of the internet side of thing, FACT.
