Best Queen song?

I am listening to them at the moment. I go through periods where I don't want to hear them again but then suddenly I hear a song that I haven't heard in a while and I get sucked back into them.

I think I am going to vote for 'Don't Stop Me Now' as my favorite Queen song. What would you say is their best?

gornyhuy 04-21-2008 07:06 AM

I just watched Sean of the Dead yesterday, featuring Don't Stop Me Now blaring from a jukebox while they bash in the head of a zombie!!

Hmmm... I have to say though, that the best Queen song is clearly Under Pressure, though its not a PURE Queen song, since its a Bowie collaboration (right?!).

G.A.F 04-21-2008 07:06 AM

Somebody to love, We will rock you and We are the champions are the best for me. :thumbsup

Redrob 04-21-2008 07:06 AM

God Save The Queen would be my first choice.....but, We will Rock You does it for me.

The reason you are thinking of the 'dont stop me now' song, is because you've been watching that 'leaked' terminal 5 baggage handlers training video, they show between the programs on ITV... :)

Queen is so awesome, Bohemian Rhapsody, Who Wants To Live Forever, Hammer to Fall, I Want It All, Killer Queen, The Show Must Go On... there are so many great songs. I don't think I could single out one song as "best".
Your thread inspires me to make today a Queen day and listen to nothing but Mr Mercury and cohorts all day long. :)

Eva PSC 04-21-2008 07:29 AM

Bohemian Rhapsody for me....

these are all awesome choices .. I might be dating myself here a bit but .. the soundtrack from the movie "Highlander" was done by queen and "Who wants to live forever" and "One year of love" just to name some that haven't been yet .. a tougher question might be to name some songs that you DON'T like from Queen

LOL Thats what I mean... The cart with all the baggage on it, weaving side to side down the runway at speed, shedding its contents. Then all the other vehicles run over all the suitcases !

Show you how much I actually watch what is on tv rather than listen to it in the background. Last year the same song was on some supermarket advert with kids singing it and even then it got stuck in my head.

I agree with whoever mentioned Who Wants To Live Forever too..fantastic song.

:thumbsupFat Bottom Girls don't make my rockin' world go round. But the song sure as hell does!!!!

I absolutely love all of their songs....Go Queen ;)

Rochard 04-21-2008 09:06 AM

Years go when I was a kid, back in the day of the VCR, we used to record "Friday Night Videos". And one of the videos we recorded that night was "I want to break free". I watched that video tape over and over and over again and to this day it's still my favorite queen song. The video was great with all of them dressed up in drag.

It's up on YouTube: https://youtube.com/watch?v=2RyIyEyVPvo
(NO RICK ROLL!)

"Fat Bottomed Girls" is a close runner up!

Are you gonna take me home tonight?
oooh, down beside that red firelight;
are you gonna let it all hang out?
Fat bottomed girls,
You make the rockin' world go round.

Hey
I was just a skinny lad
Never knew no good from bad,
But I knew love before I left my nursery,
Left alone with big fat Fanny,
She was such a naughty nanny!
Hey big woman you made a bad boy out of me!
Hey, hey!

I've been singing with my band
Across the water, across the land,
I seen ev'ry blue eyed floozy on the way, hey
But their beauty and their style
Wear kind of smooth after a while.
Take me to them lardy ladies every time!

(C'mon)
Oh won't you take me home tonight?
Oh down beside your red firelight,
Oh and you give it all you got
Fat bottomed girls you make the rockin' world go round
Fat bottomed girls you make the rockin' world go round

Hey listen here,
Now I got mortgages on homes
I got stiffness in my bones
Ain't no beauty queens in this locality. (I tell ya!)
Oh, but I still get my pleasure
Still got my greatest treasure.
Heap big woman you done made a big man out-of me!
Now get this!

Oh, (i know),you gonna take me home tonight (please)
oh, down beside that red firelight
Oh, you gonna let it all hang out
Fat bottomed girls you make the rockin' world go round *(yeah)*
Fat bottomed girls you make the rockin' world go round
GET ON YOUR BIKES AND RIDE!

Oooh yeah oh yeah them fat bottomed girls
Fat bottomed girls
Yeah yeah yeah
all right
ride 'em cowboy
Fat bottomed girls
Yes yes

Don't Stop Me Now is one of my favorites too :thumbsup Under Pressure is up there too, and Bohemian Rhapsody should get an honorable mention for being my favorite drunk 5am kareoke song.

Unquestionably Queen was one of the world greatest bands. But before Queen there was "Smile" with Tim Staffel and Brian May and they produced some very nice tracks like
"Earth" (Staffell), "Step On Me" (May), and "Doin' All Right" (May/Staffell)
All worth a listen :thumbsup:thumbsup

D 04-21-2008 09:21 AM

When I was a kid, I fantasized about learning to play guitar enough that I could nail the solo at the end of "We Will Rock You"...

I'm still think "Bohemian Rhapsody" is a better song, though...

Too many great Queen songs to choose from.

A less heard Queen song I really like is called "'39." I first heard it in the Tribute To Freddy Mercury Concert with George Michael singing. I actually prefer this live version to original in a way.

Also love "Under Pressure" and "Radio GaGa." And many more...

The machine of a dream
Such a clean machine
With the pistons a pumpin
And the hub caps all gleam

When Im holdin your wheel
All I hear is your gear
When my hands on your grease gun
Oh its like a disease son

Im in love with my car
Gotta feel for my automobile
Get a grip on my boy racer rollbar
Such a thrill when your radials squeal

Told my girl Ill have to forget her
Rather buy me a new carburetor
So she made tracks sayin
This is the end now
Cars dont talk back
Theyre just four wheeled friends now

When Im holdin your wheel
All I hear is your gear
When Im cruisin in overdrive
Dont have to listen to no run of the mill talk jive

Im in love with my car
Gotta feel for my automobile
Im in love with my car
String back gloves in my automolove

Haha - I was thinking the same thing! What a great video, though now I feel even older :winkwink: They are one of the quintessential bands of all time.

I have many favorites. Bohemian Rhapsody, I Want to Break Free, Fat Bottom Girls, Can't Stop Me Now... My list could go on and contains probably everything already mentioned in this thread!

CaptainHowdy 04-21-2008 09:37 AM

None ...

Rochard 04-21-2008 09:42 AM

Crap. Now I've been listening to Queen since I saw this thread......

I remember my mother's favorite album back in the day was "A Night At The Opera". Years later when CDs came out I bought it on CD and listened to it constantly. I love every song on that album; One of my favorites was "39".

Now because of Wayne's World everyone has it.......

'39 is one of the first "unplugged" songs I ever liked. In fact I bought "A night at the opera" the year it was released and came to love that song. Incredible accoustic guitar work in it.

LOL. Same here. I am looking up "'39" videos on YouTube. Great to see someone else who loves that track.

It is interesting to see Freddie Mercury singing "'39". I'd never seen him singing it before. It's actually sung by Brian May on the original album. May has stated he's very disappointed it was never released as a single. Here's a good HQ clip of a modern performance of "'39" I just found: '39 - You Tube.

I wonder how today's teenagers look at the Queen and their music.

Is it very uncool to them, like from "Dad's" era?

dig420 04-21-2008 10:36 AM

'You're my best friend' and 'I'm in love with my car'

I love Queen and I sing a song by them everytime I go sing Karaoke!!
Some of my fav songs
Killer Queen
Somebody to Love
Bohemian Rhapsody
Dont stop me now
Fat bottom girls
We are the champions
These are the days
and the list goes on :)

CarlosTheGaucho 04-21-2008 11:47 AM

I never really intensely listened to them, cause I foundnd them a bit gay and too popular, but they sure were very inventional and visible, in fact nowadays I would kill for a pop or pop rock that would have invention and instrumental skills like this.

I liked their older stuff, actually "Tie your mother down" and "Under pressure" are probably my favourite songs.

Yeah I also remember (hardly) I did once some karaoke, I guess it was even bohemian rhapsody, yet Mercury was a bit tough to immitate..

If you want to get obscure and date yourself, check out the soundtrack to Flash Gordon. The whole album kicks ass, especially the title cut.

I grew up with a Flash Gordon nut for a mother. So, even though I was very young when it came out (think 1981 ?) I can't help but get the Flash theme song in my head now and then. Flash..aaaaah...saviour of the universe!
