ReAlisTiC 04-21-2008 02:59 AM

its not uncommon

potter 04-21-2008 04:01 AM

my mom was on a flight that got hit by one, she just said it's REALLY LOUD. they're actually built to withstand it, somehow the electricity passes around it and doesn't interrupt anything. and yeah, it's not uncommon at all.

PornMogul 04-21-2008 04:07 AM

Doesn't look like it hurts the plane but ya would definitely be scary

Pete-KT 04-21-2008 06:26 AM

the planes are made for it, it happens a lot just scares everyone but nothing happens to the plane

Cyndalie 04-21-2008 06:28 AM

That's wild it doesn't screw up their avionics.

BV 04-21-2008 07:16 AM

pornguy 04-21-2008 07:36 AM

It happenes all the time. More often than not, no damage to the plane.

Tre_Synful 04-21-2008 10:12 AM

Crap, b/w hijackers, pilots accidentally firing guns, and crashes...
As if it could get any scarier to fly.

stickyfingerz 04-21-2008 10:24 AM

yup and my blackberry is going to make the plane crash... right... :1orglaugh

D 04-21-2008 10:30 AM

I've heard this happens all the time...

Provided that the planes are properly protected (which I'm sure they are), I think it's possible those inside wouldn't even notice, as the plane's not grounded.

Could be because I use gofuckyourself.com and they have it banned possibly. Maybe it's ok on gfy.com or the other domains. But from the fully spelled domain, it was just anti-hotlink images.. some other people have them too and I thought it was a joke, lol.

Course they are ok, why not? It's just a lightning hitting a plane :2 cents:

RevengeBucks_Monica 04-21-2008 11:20 AM

I always thought it would be super scary to be in a plane when it got hit by lightning.... I was pretty sure they were built to withstand but regardless, it could be pretty overwhelming if you are an anxious flyer.

Scott McD 04-21-2008 11:27 AM

I'd probably shit my pants !

GrouchyAdmin 04-21-2008 11:27 AM

This thread is en-lightening.

AlienQ - BANNED FOR LIFE 04-21-2008 01:15 PM

Yeah after some looking, the planes lights are still blinking after the strike.

https://youtube.com/watch?v=Yu_moia-oVI

I think thats different footage but the same event.

After Shock Media 04-21-2008 01:31 PM

Even more funny. Planes actually stimulate lightning and encourage themselves to be hit (plane not the pilot).

Not sure if there is video up but there was some military test pilot whos job was to get struck in his plane. Talk about a fucked up job.

baddog 04-21-2008 01:55 PM

I remember being in Tucson one summer during a pretty fierce lightning storm. I saw what looked like a ball of lightning bounce across the mountain tops. I asked my friend if he saw it, and he acted like I was high or something.

Later that day I heard a radio report about ball lightning being reported. They said that it has been reported to roll down the aisles of commercial airliners. Now that would be freaky.

Bingo.

If the plane were on the ground at the time, it'd probably be a whole different story. Negative ions (lightning) meeting positive ions (the earth), right? Seems like the circuit wouldn't be complete unless the plane was on the ground. In which case, that's one plane I really would not want to be on.

Thurbs 04-22-2008 06:46 AM

would be very un-nerving to those inside

Puremeds Support 04-22-2008 07:24 AM

I thought when planes got struck by lightning they were equiped with some item that kept the plane from being harmed, like some kind of high tech lightning rod?

mikesouth 04-22-2008 07:30 AM

Happens almost daily no big deal
