Before I started smoking more I never believed what a bonding thing it really is. But it really does bring people together and helps find a common ground way more then I ever used to think it did. Kinda odd and not sure totally why but there is something about lighting up with someone and finding that common kinship.

no - beer drinkers don't have the same thing going on as potheads.

I believe it is a combination of things. First, you share a common interest (smoking). Second, you hang out together to smoke. Third, you share a stick (like the indians and their peace pipes way back when). It is perfectly normal for there to be a "brotherhood" developed between/among smokers. I don't smoke (anything) but I think pot being "illegal" is a fucking JOKE!

the only difference is, cocaine and heroin are somewhat taboo, so finding others that share that bond is more difficult due to people not usually open to share their drug use when it is taboo drugs

Not the same but the socialization built around drinking trumps the socialization built around pot any day. Just think about it. Bars are nothing more than something to bring people to a central location all because they want a drink and want to be with other people who are drinking.

I'm thinking maybe it has to do with the effect of marijuana versus the effect of alcohol. Alcohol effects everyone different... some good, some bad. Marijuana seems to make everyone happy.
