Mac Junkies

I'm thinking about testing the waters with a Macbook or Mac Air.

What's the best place to purchase. I'm sure the Apple store is a rip and I don't need the thing yesterday. Amazon had some decent deals. Any other suggestions?

There´s a slightly difference on the prices for apple articles. So i suggest you find some local macdealer near you.
Always good for quick help/repairs..

the air is cool but more of a "run and gun" type of laptop, good for checking emails, surfiing the web when you're on the road... If you plan to do more than just basic stuff like that, get the macbook pro.

Macmall.com has the best deals and rebates.

No need for the overpriced PRO version.. the black macbook does a perfect job and the 13" screen is just perfect :)

he's right... apple pretty much controls the price of what people can buy them for and sell them for brand new "authorized apple dealers" so I would hit the apple store... it's worth it to get the comp there and get the applecare plan as well.. they will fix ANYTHING I broke my own they opened up a new box and gave me a brand spanking new mac book pro.. after I stuck a screwdriver through my old mac book pro.. so that right there was worth the couple hundred you'd save from some shit online place... amazon is just a broker.. it will still come from a shit place.. always check the place it is comming from on resellerratings.com

GO mac and go to the apple store.. it's worth it in the end

well if you dont like the mac os you can always just format it with xp or vista with bootcamp. i got a mac and have been running windows with bootcamp for last couple weeks so far so good.

LiveDose 04-20-2008 07:10 PM

Thanks for the feedback guys.

i find my black macbook a little slow for heavy duty stuff, will invest in a pro in the future.

payd2purv 04-20-2008 07:26 PM

My current mac is a mbp. I use it hooked up to a lcd with wireless mouse and keyboard..

No complaints.

13" is just too small for me. I wouldn't bother using it with a screen that small. You also don't get the same video card..

Don't forget to look in the refurb section of the store. Its labeled "Special Deals". You can save a some decent loot on a refurb or slightly older model. They are re-certified so you get the standard warranty and you can buy Apple care for them. I've gotten these for my jobs in the past. All worked 100%. Or find a student who doesn't want to use their educational discount. It actually works out to about the same as buying a refurb.

I love my MacBook and all my other dumb macs.

This is excellent Mac Buying Advice

The best way to order is online from the Mac store.

http://store.apple.com/Catalog/US/Im...utingpage.html

Select that you are a student or work for a college, enter a known college zipcode, then select your school. No proof required, educational discount. Saves you atleast a hundred bucks or so on a system.

yeah, go to the store. definitely check their refurb stock first - AMAZING deals. and also go with a pro or reg macbook. the air is built specifically for mobility. it's not built to be a work horse.

aico 04-21-2008 04:21 AM

Prices are all the same, go to the Mac Store.
