Best way to learn a second language?
 

I downloaded Rosetta Stone and the French language pack yesterday. They put up four photos and then through repetition you match similar phrases up with the correct photo. They just throw you right into this. No english is used at all. Just French and photos. I'm not complaining yet, just asking if this is a good way.

can you take a summer and spend it in France? Tours would be best.

i guess the best way is to practice really the language. For example you could go on french forums, watch french joke movies, make movies with french pornstars :p

Also if you want to go in france, select according to your favorite climate.

If you can't actually spend some time in France, another good way is to buy DVDs sold in France, select Audio: Français, Sous-titres: Anglais
That way over time, you'll see yourself more watching the film and following what their saying without reading the sub-titles....

3 months later, something clicked on my brain and I started to magically understand the english I was hearing all around me.

Go to the country where they speak the language you want to learn, and stay there for a while. Speak out loud to let your tongue get used to it (even if it sounds like crap).

Best way to learn french:
Get an arrogant french girlfriend. Shouldn't be too hard to find.
She'll twist your nipples and make you parlez-vous huma huma in no time.

Immersion is the way to go.

Search for "Michael Thomas" on amazon. :warning
His CDs rock, he formed my base knowledge of spanish. With that base you are able to extend it very easily.

The rosetta stone has no french on it tho ?

As long as you have pronunciation down you should create a vocabulary base. After a vocab base you should then make sentences and work on grammar.

Yeah, move there and get a French girlfriend who barely speaks English and make yourself only speak French even if you feel like an idiot. Get over it and just do it. Force your brain to adapt.

Rosetta Stone is the Bomb, using it now to get my Francais up to where the family won't talk shit behind my back. ;)
I just recommend getting a Fr/Eng dictionary to help you along, and /or French for Dummies. Working wonders so far.
BTW if you wanna really impress a girl say "Tu est une Belle Vache" they love that!

if you want to learn how to be french instead of just learning to speak french its pretty simple, quit showering, when you're about to get into a fight run like a coward, and of course start insulting everybody who isn't an arrogant smelly french coward. When they come after you for insulting them of course surrender everything you have and run away.
