Headphone amplifiers, anyone have/used one of these?
I listen to my headphones a lot, current ones are crazy nice, best set of cans I've ever heard or owned.. Sennheiser HD25-1 II is the model. I mainly listen to hiphop so I don't have any interest in like open design sets or anything.
I mainly just use my ipod and plug straight in, but I know a lot of audio geeks swear by their portable amplifiers.. Do they really make it sound that much better, or just louder, or what? The good ones are at least $400, don't know if it's really worth it. Any experience? |
amps for headphones? of course they are awesome. most mp3 player (even the fucken ipods) don't have enough juice to output a decent signal for headphones.
if you are good with electronics, search google for 'diy cmoy' or search ebay for cmoy and buy a pre-made one. they go for around $50 or so. $400 for a good amp? lol |
Most audio geeks also swear by "oxygen free" audio wiring costing $6 per foot while it's been proven over and over again than Home Depot 12 gauge electric lamp wire has equal or lesser resistance.
If your audio source pushes enough volume there's no reason to add an amplifier. Your iPod already has an amplifier on its circuit. Adding another one will just add more noise into the signal path. |
That's what I don't understand, do they just make it louder, or also warmer, etc?
