Earthquake rattles Illinois

Just read on CNN that an eathquake magnitude-5.2 hit 131 miles east of St. Louis, Missouri.

Any webmasters there? if so are you all OK?

i'm from there, but not there now, but glad to hear it's more southern IL :)

It rattled the hell out of southern Indiana as well.

I first thought it was an earthquake, then dismissed that idea because of they aren't a common thing for us. Next thought was a tornado, so I was out of bed and into the hallway to get the boys up.

They met me coming out of their doors, and I sent the munchkin into my bathroom. The manchild went up into the living room and called back that it was an earthquake, not a tornado, as there were no winds.

All over in a minute/minute and a half, but pretty freaky, especially coming out of a sound sleep.

I went through an earthquake a few years ago, I was sitting on the toilet and I heard a very loud rumble a few seconds before it hit, I?m lucky I was sitting on the toilet as it scared the shit out of me :)

I had no idea what it was. It was my first earthquake and I just popped up in my bed and looked around.

On a side note, I've read that everyone was alright. It was only 5.2 and the most serious damage was a porch that collapsed and trapped some lady in her house.

Nothing more than a bit of shaking in our area with no damage :)

They have been talking about it here, but i didn't feel anything.

Wow, that's really rare for that region.

Good to hear everyone is ok :thumbsup

That is kind of funny. I had goodgirl in San Francisco and joked that maybe we would have an earthquake. We didn't.

If she had been at home I guess she would have experienced one.

Once that New Madrid fault goes in SE Missouri... it's all over for St. Louis and Memphis.

That's my biggest fear. Depending on the depth of the quake, it can actually squeeze sewage lines and force the sewage back from where it came : )

i felt it in indianapolis. it wasn't real violent just more of a sway to the house.

ouch I guess that could be a pretty scary thought.. Thinking it was a tornado and how close it must have been to be shaking your house. Then you were likely relieved that it was only a earth quake. :Oh crap
