Windows Vista, removing the fancy shit for high performance?
.....anybody know the procedure of doing this? Taking away the shadows and the fancy bullshit? i want to make mine barebones for fast loading, best performance
thanks a lot :) |
control panel > system and maintenance tools > left side bar there is a series of options that will let u disable animations, shadows and all that shnizzle........
|
gxm, thanks man, trying it now.....
|
i think it's the theme that should be changed
|
this site might come in handy
http://www.tweakvista.com/ |
once u do that is just windows xp with google desktop for indexing =p
|
I did all that crap to it, and have fought with Vista on my laptop for about a year now. I'm going to finally do the best tweak on it that you can do - reformat and load XP.
If you use AVISynth with VirtualDubMod on a regular basis or VideoraiPodConverter .91 then don't even bother wasting your time with vista. It's funks both of those programs up. |

Read these: http://news.softpedia.com/news/Forge...ft-58752.shtml http://www.news.com/Windows-XP-outsh...3-6220201.html Quote: "New tests have revealed that Windows XP with the beta Service Pack 3 has twice the performance of Vista, even with its long-awaited Service Pack 1." Source: CNET News.com P.S. The most slowest part of Vista is built-in DRM support on driver level. It's not a "fancy shit" and it can't be removed. So windows XP is the only way to go :2 cents |
I still use the Windows 98 theme. Also used that on XP :1orglaugh

Vista is the new windows ME. enjoy it!
recently bought a notebook from IBM (fuck yeah!), came with Vista. Slow as hell. First thing I did was to format the thing, removed the hidden partition with the Vista restore, install XP pro.. now this lappy runs in circles around my gaming desktop :D |
ubuntu or XP is the only way to go
|
ubuntu doesn't really seem to be getting attention...
|
Ubuntu, is that a new version of windows?

btw, i found it a different way:
control panel -> system -> advance system settings -> adjust for best performance :thumbsup |
Running Vista with 4gb of Ram, and haven't had a problem yet. Doesn't seem slow either. I'm waiting for something to happen based on what I have read, but so far, so good.
|
I feel that if really want to run the best performance for Window Vista, RAM is very big issue.
because of this Visual Effects features eating away at your PC’s resources. To change the setting, go to Control Panel and select Adjust For Best Performance option. Maybe can choose to Turn Off Aero from the Appearance Tab. |
fyi, i'm lacking RAM that is for sure, i'm on a VERY cheap version of Dell laptops
with the specs i have, i cant believe they'd even put the appearance enhanced Vista on this system |

Vista needs a min of 2 gigs ram anyone running it with less i feel sorry for. |
