once u do that is just windows xp with google desktop for indexing =p

Tat2Jr 04-18-2008 02:29 AM

I did all that crap to it, and have fought with Vista on my laptop for about a year now. I'm going to finally do the best tweak on it that you can do - reformat and load XP.

If you use AVISynth with VirtualDubMod on a regular basis or VideoraiPodConverter .91 then don't even bother wasting your time with vista. It's funks both of those programs up.

P.S. The most slowest part of Vista is built-in DRM support on driver level. It's not a "fancy shit" and it can't be removed. So windows XP is the only way to go :2 cents

JamesK 04-18-2008 02:53 AM

I still use the Windows 98 theme. Also used that on XP :1orglaugh

So true. Fuck Vista. I'm waiting for Windows 7.

StuartD 04-18-2008 05:51 AM

Windows Bob out performs them all.

Cash 04-18-2008 11:37 AM

And I just bought a laptop with Vista on it ... :)

Probably gonna be even more vista'ish... keep XP as long as possible.

subc 04-18-2008 11:44 AM

Vista is the new windows ME. enjoy it!

recently bought a notebook from IBM (fuck yeah!), came with Vista. Slow as hell. First thing I did was to format the thing, removed the hidden partition with the Vista restore, install XP pro.. now this lappy runs in circles around my gaming desktop :D

farkedup 04-18-2008 11:46 AM

ubuntu or XP is the only way to go

sniperwolf 04-18-2008 12:32 PM

ubuntu doesn't really seem to be getting attention...

dav3 04-18-2008 12:37 PM

Ubuntu, is that a new version of windows?

severe 04-18-2008 12:44 PM

dont have time to read the second right now, but the first is a poor benchmark etst since its only running a 1gb machine and trying it only on 1 proggy. unless all u do is browse the internet u really should have more than 1 gig for vista and u def need to try multiple types of operations not just word to get a proper benchmark

Yeah, you may be right about 7 and yes I intend to do exactly what you suggest.

tiger 04-18-2008 03:17 PM

1. take vista software and throw it in the trash
2. buy winxp pro
3. install winxp pro

Microsoft Gives Up On Vista

The question now isn't "Is Vista Dead?" It is. The real question is: Can Microsoft get Windows 7 out in time to save its desktop domination? I think Microsoft "could" pull it off. Here's how.

Vista is dead.

That's not what Bill Gates said at a seminar on corporate philanthropy in Miami on April 4, but it might as well have been. What Gates actually said, according to the Reuters report, is that he expects that the next desktop version of Windows, Windows 7, would be released "sometime in the next year or so."
oh lawld

jscott 04-23-2008 11:50 PM

btw, i found it a different way:

control panel -> system -> advance system settings -> adjust for best performance

:thumbsup

Azlord 04-23-2008 11:55 PM

Running Vista with 4gb of Ram, and haven't had a problem yet. Doesn't seem slow either. I'm waiting for something to happen based on what I have read, but so far, so good.

RichDad 04-24-2008 12:15 AM

I feel that if really want to run the best performance for Window Vista, RAM is very big issue.
because of this Visual Effects features eating away at your PC’s resources.
To change the setting, go to Control Panel and select Adjust For Best Performance option.
Maybe can choose to Turn Off Aero from the Appearance Tab.

jscott 04-24-2008 12:23 AM

fyi, i'm lacking RAM that is for sure, i'm on a VERY cheap version of Dell laptops

with the specs i have, i cant believe they'd even put the appearance enhanced Vista on this system

not trying to slam you but are you one of those idiots that bought a system with 1 gig ram with vista ?
