Do I have to pay Visa and MC 1.5k to open a merchant account with Verisign?

That was the way it was explained to me, it looks like that your going to pay around $1500 to get a Visa/MC merch account that can do on-line adult transactions. And that includes any of the gateways that are out there such as Verisign, netbilling, plugandpay, and so on :) I've seen people on here claim that they got a merchant account for $150, but you can bet your bottom dollar that it won't stand up to scrutiny, if they find out your doing on-line adult transactions then they will drop your ass in a heartbeat !!!

Not only will they drop you if your processing adult content memberships through a plain vanilla merchant account ($150 set up) but you'll more then likely be TMF'd. If V/MC finds out that an unregistered merchant is processing adult memberships, the bank will get huge fines as well.

$1500. only pays for the Association (V/MC) Registrations. A more accurate number for total set up is closer to $2200. to $2500. More expensive...yes. However, the benefit is that your processing rates are in the range of 4%--4.75%
