ALL you smokers out there... I have a question!
I recently started smoking again BIG TIME, more than I ever have in my life. I started doing it right before I left Adult.com at the age of around 33. I had always been some what of a social smoker, when I went out drinking and partying and that was it. But now I noticed I was smoking a pack of fucking cigarettes in two days. I do not smoke in my house, car or anything and when I can't smoke I don't think about it. It doesn't bother me at all. I went to visit family for 2 days with no cigarettes, didn't bother me and I didn't even think about them. But when I am at home, working and doing school work, I have started smoking like crazy. It's to the point where my lungs fucking hurt, if I start to have a conversation and I get excited, which if anyone has had a conversation with me I can get very passionate with that I am saying, I lose my fucking breath. I put them down today. I told myself it's fucking stupid and ridiculous to do this to yourself, but my question is, will my lungs stop hurting, will I catch my breath again? To anyone who smoked a lot and then quit what was it like? How long before you felt better, if you did feel better? I have only been doing it this much for about 3 months and I am already dying. :Oh crap
 at myself! |
Of course you will feel better in time. Your lungs will repair themselves. And they thank you that you decided today to stop and not in five years. A pack in two days doesn't seem all that bad.
|
Ya you will begin to feel much better about a month latter. You should notice differences at about the 2 week range though.

I'd say if its that rough on you and you want to quit then you gotta like take a vacation and not smoke while you're there. I find if you change enough things around your body sorta gets confused and forgets about the smoking for a bit.
|
Well I kinda know I will get better, it can?t get worse. haha But do you think I damage the fuck out of them? I mean to get winded in a conversation is crazy. I can't believe it. Of course then my brain does all this other stupid shit, I have cancer already. I have heart disease that is why I am out of breath. I guess I just wanted to hear from people who have felt bad like this and became better and are perfectly healthy now. Or hear from people who know people who have felt like this. I don't know. haha
|
your lungs will definitely recover.. take it from me, i've been through it myself... i was a heavy smoker for like 10 years (2 packs a day).. then i got a bad pneumonia and i just continued smoking. that almost killed me, when i layed down on my back - i almost could feel my lungs collapsing, no joke - it was one hell of a pain. i *immediately* stopped smoking. then after three weeks or so it was all back to normal. no pain and a better feeling in general. that was about 4 years ago and i admit, nowadays i'm smokin again, like 1 cig in two weeks or so, but imho you've gotta be very very careful with that shit.

Anyone want to go on a smoke free vacation with me to a beach some where? Smoking on a beach ALWAYS sucks! haha |
Every time you have the urge to smoke.. masturbate instead. The bigger the urge, the bigger the toy.
OH, and take pics of you doing so. Thanks in advance. |

Thank you so much for posting your experience. I am not picking up a cig. Damn now I want to smoke one. haha I did get really bitchy this morning just thinking about it so no one piss me off, I will come out like a wet cat with his tail caught in a door jam. :1orglaugh |

When lungs clean themselves, they also get rid of all the crap...aka. You're probably going to be coughing A LOT in the next couple of days and maybe even coughing up nasty weird colored phlegm (which will make you want to stop even more because that's what was covering your lungs).
If this happens, don't freak out, it's just normal!!! |
You will recover, not to worry, everytime you feel like you want a cigarette just tell yourself you dont smoke, you not a smoker, and stick a piece of sugar free gum i nyour mouth, if you are motivated and have enouh dicipline, you will be fine...

I am a pack-a-day smoker. Thinking about quitting myself.
20 minutes after quitting: Your heart rate and blood pressure drops. (Effect of Smoking on Arterial Stiffness and Pulse Pressure Amplification, Mahmud, A, Feely, J. 2003. Hypertension:41:183.) 12 hours after quitting: The carbon monoxide level in your blood drops to normal. (US Surgeon General's Report, 1988, p. 202) 2 weeks to 3 months after quitting: Your circulation improves and your lung function increases. (US Surgeon General's Report, 1990, pp.193, 194,196, 285, 323) 1 to 9 months after quitting: Coughing and shortness of breath decrease; cilia (tiny hair-like structures that move mucus out of the lungs) regain normal function in the lungs, increasing the ability to handle mucus, clean the lungs, and reduce the risk of infection. (US Surgeon General's Report, 1990, pp. 285-287, 304) 1 year after quitting: The excess risk of coronary heart disease is half that of a smoker's. (US Surgeon General's Report, 1990, p. vi) 5 years after quitting: Your stroke risk is reduced to that of a nonsmoker 5 to 15 years after quitting. (US Surgeon General's Report, 1990, p. vi) 10 years after quitting: The lung cancer death rate is about half that of a continuing smoker's. The risk of cancer of the mouth, throat, esophagus, bladder, cervix, and pancreas decrease. (US Surgeon General's Report, 1990, pp. vi, 131, 148, 152, 155, 164,166) 15 years after quitting: The risk of coronary heart disease is that of a non-smoker's. (US Surgeon General's Report, 1990, p. vi) Immediate Rewards of Quitting Kicking the tobacco habit offers some benefits that you'll notice right away and some that will develop over time. These rewards can improve your day-to-day life a great deal. * your breath smells better * stained teeth get whiter * bad smelling clothes and hair go away * your yellow fingers and fingernails disappear * food tastes better * your sense of smell returns to normal * everyday activities no longer leave you out of breath (for example, climbing stairs or light housework). http://www.cancer.org/docroot/PED/co...ng_Smoking.asp |
Good Luck!!

Maybe you just forget to breathe when you're flapping your gums all exited and all?
But yah, everyone needs to quit smoking, including me. What throws me off is my grandma, 88, still smokes, since she was 25 and still gets around, drives herself, everything. I remember her and my grandpa would buy Winstons by the case. Not a pack, not a carton, but a frickin case of cartons. It was insane. They kept them in the chest freezer. He died a little over 10 years ago from throat cancer. |
deejne, they forgot to mention though walk around a busy city for a few hours and you will get the same carbon monoxide levels in your blood as if you had just smoked a pack.
Thats a fact too :( |
Obviously, quitting smoking regardless of what is going on is a great decision. However, IMO, a pack of cigarettes in two days is not really that much. Not so much that the smoking alone should cause the shortness of breath. You should see a doctor. If you work at your puter a lot (and aren't as active as maybe you should be) you could have formed a blood clot or clots in your legs - the shortness of breath could be from little chunks of the clots winding up in your lungs (pulminary embulism(s). It happened to me and I was younger than you when it first happened.

getting winded having a conversation? don't you people work out ever?
|
I was a pack a day smoker for 8-9 years and Im now going on a year and a half without a single cigarette.
Its pretty much the best thing Ive ever done for myself. |

I felt the same.
You'll recover, haven't had a cigarette for a month - I am feeling NOTABLY better, it's not a big deal to quit, but I started late so maybe I never developed the real habit. I am sure a person with a temperament, vitality and cute looks like you will recover even way earlier. |

You know come to think about it, when I was in the hospital for 6 days, I had a reaction to the MRI dye and it caused a kidney infection which as you know that poisons your whole body, right after the hospital I got this weird feeling in my lungs. Like I couldn't yell, my voice was different when I sang, and I couldn't talk for very long. Hmm now I am thinking this could all have came from something else, from that hospital stay and the smoking just added to it or kept it around. That hospital trip was the worse experience I have ever had in a hospital. I left there feeling more sick that when I went in. Nothing worked in the hospital and when the lady would take my temperature half the time the machine was not working, and with an infection like I had, your temperature is everything. I wonder if I got something from the hospital. It was a brand new hospital. In fact, I was the first patient to stay on the floor I was on. You would think that type of hospital would be great, but it sucked. I really thought I was in hell. Funny thing, they kept me so drugged up and the stay was so misreble. When you are poisoned like that it is the worse feeling. Anyway, a priest came in to pray with me, and being an atheist I politely declined, he was nice said okay and left. That was on the day I was leaving and after the drugs and lying for 6 days, I was wigging out. It was like a nightmare evil movie. Just thinking about it gives me chills. My lungs have not felt the same since that hospital stay. I am still quitting smoking though. But now I think there is something else. FUCK what the hell. I have never been sick in my life. I hit 30, motorcycle accident, then this fucking back, now my lungs. Well this is 3 things. I am done. No more! Getting old sucks! haha |

Good luck. I know quite a few people who smoke. After a couple days your lungs will begin to clear. Your lungs will hurt, and you will be hocking up all kinds of stuff. However, in time your lungs will begin to turn perfectly fine. They will turn their original color, as well. The sooner you quit, the sooner you will begin to feel better. Hang out around your family. You mentioned you saw them and didn't smoke anything. I notice most of my friends whom smoke will smoke less often when they're around their family. Also, I would slack down on the drinking while you're quitting. Most will try to quit, get a beer in them, and then reach for a cigarette. "Fuck it, I'll quit tomorrow". Oh, and seeing as how you smoke outside, you should have quit in the winter months. That way you won't want to walk outside for a smoke. It will be way too cold.

Also to add to that, I am very very lucky I have the genetics I do. I haven't worked out in 4 years and I am still thin and look good, not great but good. I could look a lot better if they would let me out of this healing cage I am in. |
brb gotta grab a pack of smokes
|
I just never found the appeal in cigarettes...
|
Smoking is bad for you (just walked in from having one, lol) it can and will take a while to get back to 100% after smoking for a while.
|
it took me about 3 weeks to really notice that quitting was a good idea. i'm around a month and a half maybe 2 now, and i couldn't be happier i quit...
|
Horrible habit indeed. I smoke wayyyyy more when I am in my office working. You should be alright, I am going on 12+ years of 1-2 packs per day and I am still kicking.
Pleeeease don't let me jinx myself with this post. :Oh crap |

Then there is always a point where you realize you are becoming vulnerable, you can no more spend a week with 4 hours of sleep a day in average and if you get sick you won't recover in two days. After about 9 years of intense nightlife - I never did any heavy stuff but was raised in the culture where you have to be able to stand about a gallon of booze and talk to the point - I recently figured that there are days I am starting to shake and have an action radius of Ozzy Osbourne, plus my heart beats like in a power ballad from Poison. Something has changed, thus I quit at least the smoking part, and I even went that far that I am planning a massive comeback to the gym. |
