Releases

How do the realeses work.. on a site.. like tawnee stone's. If I want to build a site for a girl and I want to manage it and run it and have her as a partner.

Do I have to fill out a new release every time we shoot or how would that work?

Anyone with experience in this, have an answer?

There are different ways of handling it but you are going to be safer doing a release every shoot.

Talk to a lawyer first. There are alot of other issues to deal with other than a release particularly with a single model site.

I think to get a release for each shoot is definately the best way

You shoud have some sort of formal contract between you if you are going partners.

I am currrently trying to find someone who will go partnership with me in a site - and if that goes well - for some of my models also

so I am looking into all the details of this - I've seen too many ppl get burnt in the past

If I find anythign of interest I'll let you know

Thanks!

I thought that, that is what I had to do, but maybe there is some addemdum that would help me avoid making 3 - 4 Releases a month..

Anyone who actually has a site ... running want to give his/her imput?

do a release every shoot and pay her like $1 or so just so you can make sure its a valid release. i'm pretty sure you have to exchange $ for it to be valid.

Correct on the $$, but if he is doing a partnership a standard release aint going to cut it.

Dunno, Why make her a partner? As you know, I've got a single girl site and I pay her a set amount everytime + I give her a clothing allowance. She also signs a release for every shoot. If she wants to take me to court, my lawyer will present her with 14 model releases over the past 2 yrs :thumbsup

sweetcuties has it right, don't make her a partner, your just asking for headaches !!! I've seen too many of our clients get bit doing the same thing. If you do go ahead with it, make sure you have an airtight contract that spells our everything to the letter, including how many photo's she is required to provide each month to the site, and any thing and everything that the model is expected to do to be considered a partner ! Otherwise you just asking for trouble. :2 cents:

A release every time you work is the way to go.

A release everytime she works and pay her for the rights to resell her pics.

The only reason to "partner" "broker" etc. Is because you are not confident you will earn enough to pay the money the person wants, you cannot afford it or you think you can shave.

Or is it that you want to make someone your "partner" and pay them $1,000 for what they would have taken $300? We went the "partner" route in the beginning, it sucks.

Thanks for all the comments!

So I guess to pay a girl 30% of the profit of the site is kinda crazy and the wrong way to do it huh? and I was trying to make a fair deal.

I also thought that if you have her under contract or as a 'partner' she would not disappear rather she would stick around.

Hmmm...

I guess Im gonna make a release everytime we shoot!

THANKS FOR ALL THE HELP!

A definition of a "fair" deal is one which both parties are satisfied enough to agree to.

Charly is right. In general, I think most models (usually rightly) think they are better off being paid up front. From your perspective (and probably hers as well), it's best that business deals are short and sweet. People move, people change, circumstances change. It's best to do the deal and go separate ways.

Most attorneys will tell you that, in general, partnerships are the least desirable kind of business structure for all kinds of reasons.

I agree - Partnerships are not the way to go, it may seem great now to give 10-20-30% to someone to give you content to save 5-20k upfront, but what happens if your site is a hit and you're doing 20+k/mo, you'll be upset that you're giving away 6k/mo for something probably would have initially only cost 10-20k
