This might be news to you but The Simpsons is what is referred to as a "satire". A satire pokes fun at what the writers perceive to be bad or flawed or just plain ridiculous aspects of a certain culture or society. In this instance, what is being satirised is American culture.

The Simpsons constantly make fun of:

1. Religion
2. The American legal system
3. Americans obsession with television
4. The production-line mentality of Hollywood
5. How multinational companies are above the law
6. The American education system
7. US Police corruption
8. US Political corruption
9. American ignorance of the rest of the world.
10. Americas "fast food" culture

These are just a few I can think of off the top of my head.
