Linux 8.0

Anyone using it yet? I'm downloading it now from 3 seperate .EDU's right now & only getting like 120k total, so they are getting swamped right now with downloads.

Anyways....who is using 8.0 & duel booting, i need to figure out if i should install partition magic for this, or if 8.0 is techincally superior enough at this point to partition itself.

SilverTab 10-11-2002 07:15 PM

Which distribution are you talking? Linux Mandrake 8.1 was out quite a long ago...perhaps redhat? But I think you'll still need partition magic...you could do it with linux installer, but safer with PM...

pr0 10-11-2002 07:19 PM

Redhat 8.0

L0stMind 10-11-2002 08:05 PM

redhat 8 rocks :)

L0stMind 10-11-2002 08:06 PM

should I put it up on a server for gfy'ers?

I'm still trying to download...

pr0 10-11-2002 10:02 PM

I got about 3 hours left to finish the download of all 5 iso's.

I heard RH 8.0 looks just like windows

You should go to http://www.linuxiso.org/ and download the ISOs from there. They ping the downloads and select the fastest server.

If you want to move the masses into purchasing your support packages then yes, looking & acting more like windows garuntee's your long term future. Or so it seems to me, from a business aspect.

But yea i'm not to thrilled about a linux/windows clone.

You will need a burning program like Nero to burn the ISO image on a CD.

Spoonie Luv 10-11-2002 10:29 PM

Equinox, I'm trying your site suggestion. The first run, it dropped to like 200 bps. Killed that, second try and now it is holding at 150+ kbps. Here's hoping this one keeps going. Shit, I should've loaded it up in Opera...

pr0 10-11-2002 10:52 PM

im getting good speed off of

ftp.mirror.ac.uk

And yes you need the .iso files named...

psyche-i386-disk1.iso

disk2

disk3

disk4
&

disk5

You can also mount the iso as a virtual drive...
