Alpha Red hosting question

Does Alpha Red use quality hardware for their servers?

The prices are cheap.

We were curious.

Anyone have any Personal Experience with them?

Thanks

AlphaRed has had some major problems lately!

A lot of the big sites I trade traffic with are jumping from Alpha Red, because of the downtime they experienced last week.

Mike----

Alpha Red has good/cheap pricing....

What company did your Peepz jump ship to?

Got a URL?

Hi Rock,

I'm not really sure which hosts they moved (or are planning to) move to. This all started last week when AlphaRed experienced a UPS failure. It'll probably take some time for people to move all of their sites.

Many of them asked AlphaRed for some sort of credit/compensation. Here is one of the responses:

Quote:

Sir,

I have calculated credit on your account based on our SLA for downtime on your service and will be as fair as possible.

The downtime on your server was due to a UPS malfunction and not a network issue. Since the issue affecting your server causing the downtime was not network related, I will abide by Alpha Red's SLA enclosed and offer you a credit of 5% of your base monthly recurring charges for time down over 4 hours.

$5049 Base MRC

Time down over 4 hours was 0 hours.

Total credit due $0.00.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
And here's another response that someone received:

Quote:

i wrote my 6th angry email yesterday stating i didnt accept any more stupid apologies and all i got was a "we are so sorry, it will not happen ever again"..
Many of them have written e-mails without any response at all.

Did anyone Here have major down-time last week with Alpha Red?

Thanks

I have 3 servers there. It´s true last 2 week there were problems and downtime.

AlphaRed is a cheap hosting option, and of course is not the most reliable. I don´t use AlphaRed for my critical servers, I just use them to host so large files.

About the hardware that they use I have no idea, all I can say is that all the problems that they usually experiece are network server, at least me I never get a problem in my machines.

Wow, someone pays $5049 a month and all they get is a form letter that sticks it to them?

Customer service 101... think long term, give a little bit more for your loyal customers, losing them may cost you more in the long run.

So did this guy move? Hope so. :2 cents:

In my experience they do not respond to our DMCA's. We have to keep taking it to a higher level in order for them to remove stolen content they are hosting. Not professional, just punks.

well known spammer safe host.

Yeah, I counted at least 30 webmasters running major sites that were pissed off at Alpha Red last week. From what I understand not one of them has received any sort of compensation or even an apology.

Many of them are in the process of moving on.

Actually it is professional. They are not legally obligated to intervene so they leave the matter to be resolved by the webmaster and copyright holder. Doing anything other than that would be unprofessional.

You are misinformed. If a proper complaint is not responded to, it's their duty to remove the content. If not, they're liable (if their in the U.S. anyways) and you can get a judgement against THEM.

I used to recommend them to my clients because they were the cheapest host around. However, lately they have really dropped the ball and i'm recommending clients who otherwise would have went with them to other hosts.

Their support is atrocious. Getting something like SSH keys setup and an rsync script written took over a week, and it was done wrong.

Save yourself the headache. They aren't THAT much cheaper, and it's really worth the extra money to have your managed server managed properly.

Abbie 04-14-2008 07:11 AM

Whatever you do, don't go near AlphaRed! It's a mass exodus over there due to not just the downtime itself, but several people lost data, were denied compensation, no communication at all with their clients, and more...and the UPS failures were preventable (they were overloaded long before stuff went down and Alpha knew about it but instead of pouring money into new UPS's, they proudly bragged about their new "tube clusters" for tube sites).

The one statement I saw released by Alpha on another forum about the whole matter was a simple sentence posted by a newb sales guy ... other than that, AR completely left people in the dark.

I think Alpha is probably THE worst route anyone could take as far as hosting goes right now. Yeah, they're cheap, but in this case you are getting exactly what you pay for.
