FfVb - Firefox VBulletin extension update (say goodbye to contest threads)

Want to ignore a thread but not necessarily the person who made the thread??

No problem. The latest (beta) update to my extension will replace those useless status icons on the left of each thread with a checkbox.

Check the box and that thread disappears. And stays disappeared.
Say goodbye to contest threads or any other threads that you don't want to see.

im not using firefox but sounds cool

always wanted to have a feature to 'check' a box next to some threads and never see them again

BradM 04-09-2008 10:22 AM

This is a real winner. I just cleaned up the entire main page. Thanks!

What more do I have to add to get you to switch to FF? :Graucho

crockett 04-09-2008 11:08 AM

Said it won't be installed because it doesn't offer secure updates.. when I tried. ('I'm using FF beta btw)

Hmm.. yeah, FF 3 doesn't like it if it's not secure and I don't have a secure server handy....
I'm trying to work around that with some hash/encryption stuff. Hopefully I can get that working for ya.

I would like a feature that allows me to ignore a person and also ignore their post if anyone quotes them. The ignore feature on this site and in fact all message boards are useless because even if you have someone on ignore, some or many idiots will quote the retard and you are forced to see what that retard posted. Ignore should mean ignore. Quite simple. So make that kind of extention.

tiger 04-09-2008 01:47 PM

Very cool. Nice work.

Good idea. Done :thumbsup

Latest feature (ver 0.45):
- Will strip ignored people's QUOTES from other people's posts.

Hmm... I just added him and his quotes are gone.
Maybe try re-adding him? I'm not sure what to tell you, but... I will try to go through it all and see if I can get it ironed out.

I'm glad you guys like it so far. More suggestions are always welcome :winkwink:

pornask 04-09-2008 04:51 PM

Interesting, that could be.
Since I just started writing this, I haven't been able to test it in anything other than beta 5.
I would imagine that beta 4 uses the same html structuring but who knows.

Well, 2 beta's are bound to have problems I guess. I'll keep checking though.

I wasn't aware beta 5 was even out yet. I'll just download that.

I got it to work. I just noticed you have to add the person to a ignore list on your extention. I assumed that it would using the boards ignore list. My lists on many boards is extensive to be adding names manually. How about an import feature?

Klen 04-09-2008 05:42 PM

Nice.but real ignore wil be not just to not see ignored person threads/post,real ignore will be to hide your posts from ignored person.

Done.

Go to the user ignore list in VB and click on the "Import Ignore List to Extension" button and your vbulletin list will be magically imported into the extension for you.

this brings us up to ver 0.55. :thumbsup

bump for GatorB's 2nd wish fulfilled.

Any other suggestions?

ncg 04-10-2008 04:35 AM

This seems to block images in the post as well.

ncg 04-10-2008 04:48 AM

I meant to say that this seems to block images in all posts.

Hmm.... it shouldn't be referencing images at all.
You're the first to mention this... I can still see images.

Try uninstalling the extension and see if the images return. If so, I'll take a closer look into the code.

ncg 04-10-2008 04:59 AM

yep, thats the first thing I tried.

Using Firefox 3.0b5 on OSX

Thurbs 04-10-2008 05:02 AM

it would be cool if you had a community version, or one with friends, and u could ignore what your friends ignore

sort of like how you can follow what friends digg ;)

Manowar 04-10-2008 05:08 AM

Awesome, thanks bro!

Always.

And thanks, although I noticed that it doesn't work on your board.
It's due to the file naming structure that you use. My extension doesn't even know it's on a vbulletin site. :1orglaugh

Not really a problem, contest threads are a very rare breed on there. As are contest whores, sig whores and post whores. :)

Using Firefox 3.0b5 on OSX

Ok, I have Firefox 3.0b5 as well and can not get it to remove images, no matter what I do.
However, I am using Linux and not OSX.

I wish I had a mac here to do testing with.

candyflip 04-10-2008 07:53 AM

No go on 3.0b5 for OSX, but no issues on Windows or Linux versions here.

Great script.

candyflip 04-10-2008 08:15 AM

Now it seems to be working on FF OSX. Not sure what I did.

Is it case sensitive?

I can't get it to ignore people, but threads...it's working and that's what I wanted it for.

I tested on OSX version of Flock and it also works 100%, ignoring people and threads.

No, at least... shouldn't be. But I have no idea what's happening with that OSX bug.
If you're using windows though, it should be able to handle usernames no matter what case you enter it in.

Wow, that's good to know. I know quite a few people are using Flock now. :thumbsup

I'm pretty sure that means that the encryption keys aren't matching for some reason.
You may just need to uninstall and install again.
A pain, I know... but it will keep your ignore list intact.

FF3 is a bit of a pain still, hense the reason it's still in beta.
