pimpD 04-07-2008 01:42 AM

It expired today. You = Mark I assume (in dns)? You can still get it back within 30 days

Angry Jew Cat - Banned for Life 04-07-2008 01:45 AM

should be in it's redemption period yet

adultfora 04-07-2008 01:45 AM

Just stupid not to make sure that such a simple thing to keep your domain paid

Mike Semen 04-07-2008 01:46 AM

your fault for letting it expire. sorry.

Ron Bennett 04-07-2008 02:45 AM

Many registrars give less than 30 days to renew after expiration. Registrars are generally free to do what they want in regards to dealing with expirations...

With the exception of IF and when a domain goes into redemption period at the registry level (when that happens the previous registrant has a good chance of getting it back) - key word being IF...

Most often, expired sought after domains typically transfer to someone else at the same registrar; isn't deleted...

When it doesn't "delete" that's often a situation in which the previous registrant often has little to no time to renew nor simple recourse to recover it; suing the registrar / drop service may work, but is a longshot..

With all that said, 10 days or so grace after expiration is common ... but again one can't always count on that; registrar TOSes vary considerably.

Ron

Evil E 04-07-2008 02:46 AM

Seriously, you get like 30 emails to renew your domain before it expires.... if you let it go... you're fucking retarded.

That is all.

aico 04-07-2008 02:58 AM

It's always easier to blame someone else for your mistakes.

Maybe its time to change your location?

mrwilson 04-07-2008 03:16 AM

As much as its your own fault for forgetting to renew it, i think its a little harsh that it was snapped up by a fellow gfy'er.

It is funny though :D

StarkReality 04-07-2008 03:35 AM

If it's your company name, you might have a slight chance to get it back free.

Happened to me once, my personal advice: Just pay to get it back since it's important to you and any insulting or bitching just increases the price you'll have to pay. Don't make this lesson more expensive than it already is.

Antonio 04-07-2008 04:01 AM

you can (probably) still renew, it'll cost a few hundred bucks though

Mike Semen 04-07-2008 04:10 AM

TBH I'm really surprised you decided to bring this to people's attention like this. If I let my main business donain name drop, and had it snapped I'd keep really fucking quiet and try and get it back before anybody noticed, rather than making myself look like an incompetent fool...

collegeboobies 04-07-2008 04:17 AM

Ditto... I certainly wouldn't come here looking for people to blame...

Wagerboy 04-07-2008 04:51 AM

What is the name?

MikeSmoke 04-07-2008 05:42 AM

I wonder who invented letting domains expire?

It wasn't snapped by anyone. It expired yesterday and when he went to look at his site today www.ialien.com it was his registrar's parking page, so he assumed someone else had registered it. You can still renew your domains at most registrars for at least a two week period after the domain expires.

I know who it WAS.

But it is there business really, and yeah it was a GFYer who does work with a registry.
I just made it my business to keep what mine and it is a pretty simple task once ya know how the system works. It was pending snap once released from the registrar.

Domain speculation is big bucks and as funnay as iAlien.com is it is still a 5 letter domain which does have value.

Dude, you count as well as you renew domains. iAlien is 6 letters!!! :1orglaugh:1orglaugh:1orglaugh

AlienQ - BANNED FOR LIFE 04-07-2008 03:20 PM

Evan from Xpays may have seen it with his funny snap program.

There are a alot of those around that make lists so domains can be snapped once released. Domains are not snapped instantly anymore due to some new policies that reduced squatting and improper speculation.

Lol, domains haven't been snapped instantly for years, there's around a 45 day redemption period on most expiring domains. All you did was go into your registrar's account today and renew your domain, nobody snapped it.

I should have had the same response when you said this a few posts up "Domains are not snapped instantly anymore due to some new policies that reduced squatting and improper speculation."

Ayla_SquareTurtle 04-07-2008 04:11 PM

Even if someone from gfy snapped it, They should give it back to ya out of good faith, losing a domain after years and years is a real pain.

Nobody snapped it up, it never changed hands. His domain just expired yesterday and he renewed it today. He rushed to judgement when he saw it going to a parking page and made this thread not realizing it had just expired and he could renew it. Alienq invented self ownage.
