Funny you mention this. I wanted to see it, but just found out literally two days ago that it's a fucking musical. All desire to see it instantly flew out the window.

I was diggin that one actually...

Didn't care much for Sweeney Todd, but I think it was Depps character... kinda sick of seeing him an oddish roles.

HAHA Love your avatar Juicy!

Madame0120 04-07-2008 02:50 AM

I saw Angela Landsbury & Len Cariou do Sweeny on B'dway. She's not much of a singer, but what a great character actor! I loved the live proiduction so much, seeing the film is bound to be dissapointing.

HAHA nice avatar.

I loved it and I am not a musicals person even though I have always liked Sweeny Todd. I thought it was staged beautifully and he did a good job of being David Bowie rather than Keith Richards this time. My only thing would be that I thought they should have brought Helena down an octave or so.

i know the gf wants to watch it

Sondheim should not be sung by the faint of voice.

imho. Her voice is thready and lacks the baudy quality needed for the part. Tinny soprano - but kinda hawt with all that boobage.

Odd, they lowered the key for Angela. Star Power? Or bad musical arrangments?

Well, with Helena being married to the director you would think she could swing it if she wanted to. Maybe putting her slightly off made Depp sound better.

TOO much singing but good action and great cinematography

Now there's an interesting thought. And I suppose there is a market for her type of voice. Not my taste .. :winkwink:

I watched the Angela Landsbury broadway production on youtube(sad I know). I thought it was really good, good enough to make the movie seem very lackluster.

Sweeny Todd review

Anyone who sees Sweeny Todd is GAY, unknowingly or not. Does that make Johnny Depp gay? If this is a repost, my browser screwed up.

CherryLipsRosa 04-07-2008 09:43 AM

BradM 04-07-2008 10:19 AM

bronco67 04-07-2008 11:00 AM

Sweeney Todd is too gay for you...but you walked out of Rambo. What movies DO you like?

Ayla_SquareTurtle 04-07-2008 12:32 PM

I've seen it twice now. I was impressed, I thought I would hate it.

Madame0120 04-07-2008 07:52 PM

Our PBS Station is running a new version of "Company". Very clever, with the cast also playing parts in the orchestra.

gadabout 04-07-2008 08:28 PM

I liked it. 4/5
