I watched a documentary about the F-22 Raptor
 

...which is the lastest US fighter aircraft. In training exercises the F-22 kills F-15's (our second best fighter and the one which the F-22 is replacing) at the rate of 8-1. The claim is that no other country has a fighter that can begin to compare to the F-22. The F-22 was designed so that it can be easily updated as R&D comes up with newer and better technology. We currently only have 27 F-22's in service. It is intended to carry us through most of the 21st century.

Actually I kind of mistated when I said an 8-1 kill ratio. The F-22 can go up against 8 F-15's simultaneously and kill all eight.

I saw two of them one day while driving in the mountains. (lockwood valley) they came over at tree top level, very quiet. just cruised over very slow, then followed the valley off around the bend. it was amazing. -bmb

I heard the latest news it that the glue holding parts of the airframe together is failing and causing crashes. Guess they didn't use super glue.

I watched the F-22 Raptor fly at the 07 Air & sea show in Ft Lauderdale.

It was truly amazing what it could do and I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen it with my own eyes.
The announcer said it was flying nowhere near it's full capabilities and it was hard to imagine what more this plane could do.

One of my hobbies is world military weaponry and some of the new stuff.

Wanna see something the Russians got that is pretty neat is the Plasma weapons.
Though they still have yet to prove the technology as viable on a battle field.

What the fuck are you talking about? They are both 5th generation fighters and MIG’s aerodynamics are unmatched by F-22. Plenty of discussions about that on the internet. Get another hobby

AMRAAM ( Missile ) Will take it out before even comming within firing range of the F-22 thats assuming the Mig even knows there is an F22 in the vicinity.

Take out the Missile lets say for some reason the F22 does not have missiles.

Mig still loses not being able to see the target till he starts gettin drilled with the mini gun. Simply put the MIG Lacks stealth technology.

Ok, I hate your fucking guts, and I think you're a complete douchebag, but if what you're trying to say is that the united states has one amazing fucking machine in the F-22 Raptor. I'm going to agree. I think I may have watched the same documentary. Is it the one where they are interviewing the F-22 pilots coming back from a training mission in Alaska after they just pwned the fuck out of a whole squadron of f-15s? I think I remember them saying one f-22 raptor against 5 mig's isn't even a fair fight. It acts as a fighter and a bomber. That is one incredible piece of machinery.

Word among a lot of aviation folk is that the new MIG 1.42 is a superior plane as far as aviation and flight is concerned, but Russia's weapons system's are still nowhere near that of America's. So in other words, the MIG 1.4 will outfly the F-22 Raptor any day, but the Raptor will punch that fucker into a million pieces with a long range missile before the MIG even thinks of getting into striking distance. I'm particularly impressed by the on board AI and how the F-22's relay information between one another in order to map the battlefield between their group. It really is an incredible incredible fucking machine...

Saw the same documentary a while ago. "AlienQ" and "ismokeblunts" are right, the other planes won't see it coming, so better maneuverability of a mig doesn't matter. Can't maneuver if you're in a thousand pieces.

There were 4 out here in Vegas, but one crashed on takeoff a couple years back. Pilot made it out, but that was one expensive mechanical error. They fly over my house all the time and I don't mind the occasional noise one bit.

As a former F-15 mechanic (I even recognize the tail number on the F-15 from Eglin below) I can tell you that it's still one bad-ass aircraft that most other countries Air Forces are still afraid of. The F-22 having a kill ratio like that against F-15's says a lot...A LOT. Suppose I should TIVO that show, sounds interesting.

The F-22 is the machine that it is because it's the last fighter designed during the Cold War when they actually spent real money and took time and effort in creating the perfect killing machine. Now the focus is more like a Ford frame design where they look at flexible architectures to pump shit out quickly and efficiently for the money allocated. Australia has locked itself into the funding the fucking JSF program which has more of a combat support role which is pathetic for our region's defense capabilities. We're going from F-111's with deep strike capabilities and the kind of range required in Australia to fucking JSF's (crippled export models) which have half the range of the Russian fighters neighboring countries like Indonesia are buying. We need to be able to buy Raptors.

Ahh...no...the idea of the Raptor was first conceived about 20 years ago and has been developed over that period of time...and is just beginning to come on line. We currently only have 27 in service...and as I stated were designed to be easily upgraded as R&D develops new technologies.

The catapult-like action of the missiles shooting out from the belly is pretty sick.

I have flown in the Mustang...a real thrill.
