ear buds, why is one end longer than the other?

Ok, stupid question but why are my earbuds uneven, like one side is longer than the other and it was like that when I bought it? How do I adjust it? It has this thing in the middle but I can't push it down to adjust it, it just stays in place. Is it supposed to be like that?

Some sliders are molded in place. Try putting your audio device on the other side of your head?

The longer side goes behind your head.

i had a pair of headphones like that, i just wrapped the long one around the back of my neck to put in my ear. not sure if that was the purpose, but it sort of worked for me. i couldn't figure it out either....

Omg I never even knew this, that they were supposed to go behind ur head, wtf. I just tried it and it looks funny, like I have something coming out of my ear or coming out of the side of my head, it feels "uneven". This is crazy. :helpme

What is the purpose of this? All this time I thought my ear buds were defected and I got another pair and it's the same thing. I was about to wear it in the front like a retard. How embarrassing.

I think this only works if you start wearing makeup, and begin using "product."

bausch 04-01-2008 11:37 PM

what genius thought of this cool idea?

i would have never thought to ask this question. Mine are seemingly normal in length. Go figure

sounds whack. So, you basically have what looks like a shoulder military cord set up for your mp3 player.

i find that style of earbuds to be pretty uncomfortable myself

Just get rid of those and go buy some "Skull Candy" ear buds. They're super effecient, cheap and sound great. They're the same length too. :)

I think it's because everyone puts their music player in their pocket, so it keeps the cord to one side for you.. Better than them just meeting in the middle

i got those and it sounds like shit! it sounds hollow and so do the Sony ones i got. How come the sound sounds most "rich" and less hollow when i use my PSP headphones? When i use the skull candy it sounds like the sound is "tinny" like its coming from a "tin". Is it supposed to be like that? Maybe that's the way great sound is supposed to sound but im not used to it.

KnightMare 04-02-2008 03:42 PM

Most peoples ears are offset by a significant amount, so they make 1 of the cords much longer than the other.

Weird. I'm no expert, my experience consists of JVC Marshmellow, Ipod Stock headphones, and now the Skull Candy.

The Skull Candy sounds much richer and deeper, at much lower volumes than either of the other sets I have, on my ipod nano. Strange you had an opposite experience.

CheeseFrog 04-02-2008 09:27 PM

I thought only Sony earbuds were made this way... I've never seen it on any other brand AFAIK.
