Remember - the next time postal rates go up - this devoted, hard-working civil servant is making $20.10+ per hour (plus a lucrative health and benefit package).

Oh, and while we're on the subject of public perception...another not-so-good move is parking your Canada Post delivery van in a designated handicap spot (without a valid permit).

Especially this one - BESIDE THE CITY COURTHOUSE! :321GFY

lots of people think they can toss a fedex box or canadapost package on the dash and make the parking patrol believe they are on a "Official Delivery" like it matters..

In fact, its a personal vehicle being used by a Canada Post employee for mail deliveries (the signage on the dash is authentic - I see the guy making deliveries to drop boxes nearly everyday).

It's gotta be a nuisance for him to deal with a ticket like that unless CanadaPost just immediately says "Ok heres the money for the ticket"

Nope, he parks all over the downtown core - including on sidewalks as well. He just doesn't seem to give two shits.

While the fine may just be monetary "nuisance" to him - it would be a major inconvenience for a disabled/handicap person who can't park there because of his thoughtless arrogance.

I'm surprised it's just a $300 fine and not a tow.

Well the first pic, the dude is waiting for the mail truck to drop off his mail for that day.

Its unfortunate we're not authorized to tow in that particular situation.

We CAN tow if he's blocking in a handicap driver, tho. I wouldn't hesitate to call it in and have his ass hauled away.

as Martin correctly pointed out above, that is a genuine Canada Post unionized letter carrier waiting for his mail to be delivered to him so he can deliver it. The truck is a private contractor, who is parking in a handicapped zone and will have to pay his own ticket..

Actually, he is taking a morning break at 11am. The morning mail was delivered to him much earlier by a postie chick who blares thump-thump 'music' at 110dB and rattles our windows every morning.

Once a week I go out to the sidewalk and pick up the dozens of discarded blue elastic bands left all over my front lawn (used to bundle the mail together). Then I typically go next door and drop off my neighbour's mail that was mistaken left in our mailbox as usual.

you dont have a clue how the postal system works, so dont try to fake it...

stick to what you know and dont presume that a letter carrier is lazy...they are working people that contribute to our economy in a productive way...don't let observations of life from your window cloud your usual good judgement...

My mail never comes here on time. Some days I get a whole pile of mail, and some days I get nothing.

And here in Edmonton, Canada Post has stuck these big red mailboxes every few blocks. So the mail doesn't even come to my house. I have to walk to get it from the red mailbox. And there are piles of blue elastic bands all over the ground in front of it.

And even worse is that when I get a package in the mail, it won't fit in the mailbox, so the mail lady leaves a tag. Then I have to drive to the post office and give them the tag so that they can give me my package.

And sometimes, it's not a package, it's just a stupid letter that somebody bothered to send by registered mail. But I still have to drive to the post office because the mail lady is too lazy to bring it to my door.

As for that guy sitting in the mail box, I'm guessing that the mail delivery is just running late. Or he's talking a break. Leave him alone, he's probably been on his feet for several hours already.

Generalities aside, whether they're lazy or not - its about public perception.

And when I see my letter carrier sitting in a mailbox on my front lawn (looking very much like a federal porta-potty) smoking a cigarette...and then look at the footprints in the snow he leaves through my gardens (his daily shortcut to the neighbour's yard/mailbox), the elastic bands he litters all over my property - what image does that project to the public?

True...they're not all tarred with the same brush. I'm sure there are plenty of hard-working individuals within the Postal service. But like any profession there are those who leave us scratching our heads over their work ethic.

That guy who produces porn isn't a civil servant who's salary is paid by taxpayers. He doesn't sit in peoples front yards smoking cigarettes and littering their lawn. He's not in the public eye in his profession.
