Yes, pretty good servers and there support was great. But that was a year back. No idea if they deal with adult at all.

candyflip 03-31-2008 02:04 PM

I was with them for years, but when it came time and I wanted to upgrade to a new box, they pretty much held me up and made things difficult or too costly to do.

In the end, I moved to PacificRack and got a much better deal on better hardware and bandwidth.

cardinalvices 03-31-2008 02:06 PM

they seems to be going with adult nowadays. Their support says nothing about any limitations of exposure.. Are there any specific laws in Texas that I need to know of?

Domain Diva 03-31-2008 02:06 PM

Im with the planet.com they seem to be good and I think with thier specials they are ok priced.

candyflip 03-31-2008 02:07 PM

Nowadays? They've never had a problem with adult...at least they haven't in the past 4+ years.

cardinalvices 03-31-2008 02:23 PM

so there are no restrictions in terms of warning pages or nudity on the tours? support folks know nothing about it.

rowan 03-31-2008 09:19 PM

I've been a customer of theplanet for something like 5 years and I've never had any issues with adult content.

I once sent them a DMCA when someone copied my site verbatim, that particular page was changed/removed, but the rest of the site stayed up. (IOW: they didn't say to the customer, "hey, you've got adult content over the whole site, get rid of it")

Just be warned that your potential for expansion is limited, they are quite rigid with their setup. Don't be surprised if customer service says they cannot do it, or quote you some ridiculous price (like $60/mo for adding a 200GB HD)

qxm 03-31-2008 09:21 PM

the planet? never heard of them.............be careful with Lex Luthor though.....:)

Jace 03-31-2008 09:34 PM

theplanet gives you a server, that is it...unless you pay out the ass don't expect upgrades or support worth a damn

if you ever wanna upgrade you will end up paying for the part, then also paying monthly for that part

and support is there just to help you with core issues, nothing more

Don't see how/why a host would require this. There are very few hosts that don't allow adult, and normally these are smaller places ... most likely resellers.

"adult" isn't a bad thing, and considering you work in it, I would assume you would have the same mindset. dont spread the mindset of it being "bad" by trying to hide your adult sites or work.

people need to get used too it. everyone masturbates.

rowan 03-31-2008 11:53 PM

That reminds me, I won't be a theplanet customer much longer... TidalWave, I'll grab an extra server from you soon. :thumbsup

TheDoc 03-31-2008 11:57 PM

I get a lot of comment spam from theplanet servers.

everyone in adult knows of the planet :thumbsup you dont have to host with them or like them but I can tell you they are a not a small outfit

Christina Muller 04-01-2008 12:23 AM

ok let me give some negative from who I host with/

the planet...ok in 1 year about 12 minutes of downtime is that important to you.

cost..not the cheapest but not expensive.

Server speed and quality: 100 percent and very fast and reliable.

Tech issues: speedy.

Extras :they dont give much away for free and will charge you if they can for things maybe others may give you for no cost.

You get what you pay for and if its quality you want go with the planet if you want anything less I say go with webair.com less quality and reliablity but cheap or some other simlar brand :thumbsup

D Ghost 04-01-2008 12:37 AM

Yeah they are pretty good...

Altheon 04-01-2008 12:38 AM

I'm happy with the planet. But... if you do have a serious problem submit a ticket and then call. If you just do the ticket thing it could linger for hours.

My only real gripe so far is that they stopped supporting RHEL 3 so tech support refused to help me unless I upgraded to a supported OS. It cost $25 to do an OS reload and it took 6 hours from start to finish.

well they're the biggest hosting company out there, and also one if the cheapest, so it follows that a lot of it would come from them.

The planet is a very solid host, they are mostly great cheap hosting

i was only disappointed when i was paying $149/mo for my hosting, and heard my friend was paying for the same specs for $89/mo, i been with them for 5 years at my same price, when i asked for a price adjustment, they denied me, so i immediately moved off them, they have so many customers already so they have 0 care that 1 old time customer is leaving

Pinklinkz 04-01-2008 04:10 AM

i am in the process of moving servers away from planet
they were ok as ev1 but have gone down the drain of recent
my servers are too old and expensive and they charge for upgrades

for what i use its cheaper to buy brand new up to date else where and spend a day transferring to the new servers

This was exactly my experience.

NKYKev 04-01-2008 06:29 AM

From personal experience, hosts like OC3Networks are in the same cost range with better hardware, bandwidth, and tech support - and no issues with hosting adult content.

i am my own host
i rent the servers and thats it
i would rather do it myself as people rely on me for their livlihoods

Rorschach 04-03-2008 11:25 PM

If you want a self managed server check out Cyberwurx, they have great prices and are very open to negotiating. Although if you do go the self managed route, you are technically forgoing support, they have been very helpful with the odd tech question I've had. No affiliation, just been with them for years, can't recommend them enough.

Get it over with and go host with National Net. Their support is top notch.
