Fucking Continental Airlines destroyed my luggage...

just bought a new suitcase in january in vegas and now that i came back today i see that one wheel got ripped off. fucking shitheads - can i sue them???

The Ghost 03-31-2008 10:37 AM

Most likely you can make a claim with the airline, or if it's a brand like Samsonite they have a 10 yr warranty

Xrated J 03-31-2008 10:43 AM

i flew delta and got a little tear in the side of mine. not to mention, my can of shaving cream had a huge dent in the side of it. you'd have to smash it pretty good to dent that.

adult-help 03-31-2008 10:47 AM

Samsonite sucks, Bally rocks. :-)

Rhesus 03-31-2008 10:48 AM

If you look out your plane window when boarding you can see how incredibly carelessly they throw luggage around, it's simply unbelievable. When it comes to work ethics, I don't think it gets much worse than airport ground personnel...

I concur. :Oh crap

shermo 03-31-2008 11:06 AM

I arrived in NY a few months back to notice that my brand new luggage had the zippers ripped clean off...How that happened, I still have no idea. :\

D 03-31-2008 11:11 AM

This last Christmas, One of my rollers came back from a SouthWest jaunt literally looking like a grown man had taken it and swung a sledge-hammer directly into one of the corners.

I got it home to realize the corner had been shattered on the inside (underneath the cloth/nylon stitching), to boot...

It was no more than hard-plastic, but still.. it woulda taken some real force to do that.

Don't know about requesting compensation, though... I figured the hassle probably wouldn't be worth the $25 they might have given me for the bag... but in retrospect, I kinda wish I had filed... on principal, if nothing else.

tranza 03-31-2008 11:12 AM

File a claim, they'll probably pay for it.

PaulB IYP 03-31-2008 11:16 AM

lol....fly much
almost everytime i fly somewhere i get at least a nick in my suitcase

Peaches 03-31-2008 11:18 AM

I remember sitting in Dallas during a plane change while it was POURING down rain and literally being able to see my suitcase sitting in the rain with no cover for over 20 minutes. My clothes were still wet when I checked in to the hotel in Vegas.

Deej 03-31-2008 11:23 AM

same happened to me from vegas...

brand new luggage and we got home and it was all marked up, the plastic on the sides were shredded and a snap buckle with a strap was ripped off and missing...

to me it looked like they had it piled up on the cart and when the guy went zooming across the tarmack... it fell off and went cartwheeling, its the only thing to explain it...

they gave me 24 dollars... after 2 moinths of bugging them... at first they said they wont do anything, when i pushed it... they finally sent back 245 bucks... for a 200 dollar piece of luggage...

they also said " you shouldnt have luggage that nice or that expensive." ironically, he said this standing right next to their stand up disclaimer that says they cant treat our shit like that and they use the utmost care when handling our baggage...

i hope they do something for you, but i doubt they will...

Deej 03-31-2008 11:30 AM

stupid timeout... i meant 24 dollars total...

they also deducted my luggage damage to being general wear and tear from the conveyor belt that you get your luggage from when you arrive...

i laughed at them...

sorry to hear man, but 10-1 they wont care...

In the course of normal handling, your baggage may show evidence of use. Continental is not liable for minor cuts, scratches, scuffs, dents and soil. Continental is not responsible for conditions that result from normal wear and tear or the following:

- Damage to wheels, feet, extending handles, over-packed bag and items of fragile or perishable nature
- Loss of external locks, pull straps or security straps
- Manufacturer's defects.

Your Homeowners Insurance may cover it... look into it.

It would be crazy to file a HO policy for a piece of luggage. HO companies have been canceling people after a certain number of filings, no matter how small. Plus if you're smart your HO deductible is high enough where it's more than a piece of luggage.

Personally I'd contact the luggage manufacturer. They ARE supposed to be made to be thrown around by monkeys if anyone remembers the old Samsonsite commercials :)

Evil Chris 03-31-2008 12:04 PM

I also had problems with Continental.

They oversold the Phoenix > Newark flight on Sunday morning and I didn't get to board. So they flew me through Las Vegas!!

Instead of getting home around 6:15pm, I got in at 11:30pm.

i was on that flight

they started with a $250 flight coupon and went up to $400 + hotel room + breakfast/lunch & dinner or first class to another airport - just to get people off that flight. i hope you got any of that

Gee I didn't see you otherwise I would have said hi.

Yeah they gave me a $500 voucher for my next trip on Continental, which was OK compensation I guess. It did make for a very long day though. I am still tired.

I usually sit in the aisle so I never really look out the window at the airport, but on my flight last week I did and watched the throwers doing their thing... Makes me never want to check luggage again.

Awww crap... I had to bump this thread, last night I was flying from Phoenix to Houston on this ridiculous 3-seat wide plane, they told me my carry-on sized suitcase wouldn't fit and had to be put under the plane (checked and picked up at the gate though)... Man I bitched but they wouldn't budge at all, and I did see that pretty much every other person on the plane was doing the same. I pulled my laptop out of it and boarded, while looking terrified out the window.

I guess it's my fault buying designer luggage, but I figured carry-on wouldn't be a big deal since up until now I've been carrying it. Well thanks to this flight the retractable handle thingy has a big crack in it and the leather is all gouged up... Fuck you continental! I did notice the strange seating chart when I booked this flight, but I wouldn't think there'd be a plane that didn't allow carryon-sized luggage :Oh crap

yah they have to repair or fix it.
the geneve convension states that they are liable for up to 1200 for your items that you trust to them so it could be your suitcase or like many people claim the ipod they don't have.
