Is The Canon EOS 40D A Good Camera ??

I'm just looking to upgrade my Canon Digital Rebel XT and figured I'd take a step up to the Canon EOS 40D, but figured I'd ask all of you, the real camera experts :)

It's just for personal use, so I'm not sure I need to step up into anything a little more expensive OR should I ???

I have heard only good things about it in that price range.

Bump.

I have an unused EOS 30D... it's out of the box, I used it a few times and didn't find I had enough time to properly learn how to use it. So it's been sitting in it's bag on the shelf for a year!

I'd be happy to sell it to you for a very good price if you are interested.

Just hit me up on icq if you want to chat.

I'm a Canon man, and I'm about to step up from the D30, and what I hear the 40's LCD screen is even bigger and easier to use than the 30's (and I think the 30's is great) and the 40 picks up skin tones even better than the 30.

I'm not sure I'm ready to make the jump to the 5, but I'm gonna get the 40 soon!

for personal use seriously don't bother. your XT is a nice camera, if you're not making money off this camera why go above that? Personally I keep a "pocket" camera, and an everyday one that I don't throw shit if I lose (~$300) and a good one for business stuff.

im looking to snag a 40D, but i heard from some Nikon people that they are all plastic compared to the nikon 300

now, i know that they are nikon people... but i do know i love their shots... I should look into it, but i think im still leaning towards the canon... i want to depend on lenses more than features and gizmos...

canon lenses are ALL glass though sooo... they can have their heaping hardware...

I bought the new 450D a few days ago and it's a big improvement from the 350D, ofcourse the 40D is even better but check out the 450..

I'm a Canon guy and have owned alot of their stuff. I currently own two Canon 1ds. Everyone has their own needs from a camera. The most important thing for me is the focusing system. Doesn't matter how fucking amazing a picture is if ti's not in focus. The canon system has an amazing focusing system in their professional cameras. In their consumer cameras they are shit. I traded in a 30d I had because of this reason. They are whore-able focusing in low light situations & if the model is being backlight. If your in a bright studio, kinos blazing then it might work for you. I might suggest the 5d or even an older professional model. The 1ds mark II color management system with the cmos sensor was a little off for me and the pictures looked really surreal. I do not mind processing my pictures for slight changes but redoing the whole profile become way to taxing for the workflow that I have.

I'm going to buy an entry level d-slr for gorilla stuff, something I can be a little rougher with and not worry about my expensive outfit. I checked out the new Pentax (think its called the k200?) the camer feels great, great color reproduction & feels really solid (also sounds good) great program exposure on auto too. Pentax's lenses are fucking amazing as well. That camera has my vote for new d-slr. I think the kit is like $1000- I'm just not sure if it has the live view, that would suck if it doesn't.

And guys this shit is off the top of my head. Don't fucking all geek out on me and rip me apart or I will get all tech on you and you wont know what the fuck I am saying. Well maybe Red Ezra & Just Dave will.
